For Jehovah's Witnesses only?

I mean no disrespect but I would like to know how you can believe that the world is only 5000 years old and that all the evidence from scientists that the Earth is millions or years old and things like carbon dating are untrue. I have a young friend who is a witness and we have very open discussions about religion. She says to me that if her parents weren't witnesses she doesn't know what she would be. This makes me wonder if she only believes in what her parents have taught her?

Update:

Sunshine - You didn't mention your thoughts on carbon dating.

Hunny - My friend is no child, she is 23 and engaged to be married.

Lone-dissenter - Are you admitting that the E arth could be millions of years old?

Pedro - Also never mentioned carbon dating.

Cunundru - No idea what your on about?

Angelmus - What your saying is that you are prepared to believe in a book written buy old men and on admit to agreeing with some carbon dating as long as it doesn't conflict with your beliefs.

Update 2:

bar_enos - I see buy the history of your answers that your life and thoughts are dominated by religion. I think you should keep a more open mind and not be so aggressive with your answers when others question your beliefs. Discussion is healthy not threatening.

You say "the world is only 5000 years old" and "that the earth is millions of years old".

Did you notice that you switched from "world" to "earth"?

There is a BIG difference per the Bible.

They are not the same. And there is a BIG difference in the length of time for each of these.

Carbon dating has its problems. But it can be a guideline at times. For carbon dating to be as correct as it can be, there are variables that would have to be taken into consideration.

I would suggest a little more research on the variables of carbon dating testing before making an incorrect assumption that CD testing is 100% correct.

And please look at the Bible's definition of world and earth. That may clear up a lot for you.

I guess you've figured out that JW's don't think that the earth is only 6000 yrs old,

The 6 creative days mentioned in Genesis can also stand for 6 time periods, so there's no telling just how old our beautiful earth is. Here's the Strongs definition of the Hebrew word for day http://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/lexico...

    Thanks for asking though

  • Are you asking a question or just giving us your own answers?

We have already answered what you asked originally. We don't teach or believe that the world is only 5,000 years old.

    So, why the continuing argument?

I'm sorry but you have been misinformed.

As for your friend, she may be young and have not yet developed a real love for Bible truths. Either way the choice is hers. I became a JW not because i was forced by parent's but rather because i felt love for Jehovah and Jesus and for what i had learned.

We don't; Jehovah's witnesses do not believe the earth is five or even six thousand years old.

the asker would do well not to get his information about Jehovah's witnesses from unreliable sources but either go to our official website or ask a witness directly. This would enable him or her not to embarrase himself asking questions based on untrue, inaccurate and ill informed fallicies.

EDIT: You and the poster below might like to re-direct your question to a group OTHER than Jehovah's witnesses since this is NOT what we believe.

    Sunshine.
