The fact Africa is in a mess is not Europe's fault, is it?

The USA had NO African colonies. Africa was ruled mostly by the UK and France. They left in a hurry in the late 1950s, because they were no longer welcome, and because the USA told France and the UK to wind up their colonial empires pronto. Because of the cold War, they did not have much choice. One nation dug in its heels about one African colony: France in Algeria. The result was a big mess that brought France to the edge of national collapse.

The UK and France "fled" as you say, but everybody at the time thought that fleeing was a good thing!

France and the UK did not sabotage things in the years right before the handover. Things weren't in "perfect condition," but they weren't a shambles either. The colonial powers had built some railways, telephone and electric systems, some schools and universities, etc. What there was in the way of manufacturing plant was handed over to the new governments.

Sub-Saharan Africa is a mess because over the past 50 years, African simply have not known what they were doing. Often the government is the biggest thief around, backed up by thugs in police uniforms. Whole societies have lost the plot about what honesty means.

Many African countries have moved backwards since independence 50 years ago. To blame this situation on the colonial past rings more and more hollow. India, Indonesia, and Malaysia were colonies, yet they have managed to move forward. South Korea and Taiwan were colonies of Japan and now they are as rich as Europe. Vietnam is moving forward despite French rule and the American war there. All of Latin America was a colony, but much of Latin America is far far better off than Africa. Afghanistan and Ethiopia were never colonised, yet are desperately poor today.

Update:

king khameleon, the sooner you lot stop feeling sorry for yourself the quicker your problems will be soughted. If you empires were so great before we europeans came why didnt you fight us off?

Look at India, even America who were once part of our empire and are now bigger than Europe in so many ways economically. They siezed their opportunity unlike you. The British left Africa with good transport links and education system. You also complain we left you in limbo due to forcing different tribes together. But according to you left wingers we are equal. Oh yea and this throws your idea that everything was equal in africa no matter who you were (woman or man) out the window.

You can punish us europeans all you like (which you never will be able to do until the last white man has thrown in the towel) but it will not solve your problems. Stop whining and start using condoms and sort out ya continent.

Why are you even bringing up the USA?

Africa is in the state that it's in because Africa's government cared more about power than it did it's own people. It's Africa's fault.

Actually, I know the history of many African nations and you could not be more incorrect.

They were granted political freedom throughout the 1950s and 1960s, but were not granted economic freedom.

Most of the time strong men were put in place as dictators. These dictators were protected by the West from being overthrown. The West protected them in exchange for cheap resources like oil, metals, minerals, gold, diamonds, etc.

The dictators seized all of the revenue for themselves and invested no money in infrastructure.

France took a very BIG rule in the Rwandan genocide. The French government bank rolled and armed the genocidal Hutu government. They even stepped in to rescue the Hutu army when they were on the run from the Tutsi rebel army.

The continent had been a battle ground between Francophone countries and Anglo-led governments. Africa has suffered a similar fate as central and South America.

Vietnam had the backing of the Russians and conducted very heavy trade with the Chinese and other Asian governments, which has been a boon for their economy.

BTW, Latin America was colonized, but was only founded as a country by the settlers themselves. The native populations were either killed off or are second class citizens to this day.

I think Europe deserves a portion of the blame for the mess Africa is currently in. After all, they were the ones who arbitrarily partitioned Africa into the nations we see today. People from different ethnic tribes were forced to live together under colonial rule. It's little wonder their would be a lot of ethnic strife once the colonial powers left.

By the way, the US did have a colony of sorts in Africa. The nation of Liberia was set up by the US government as a destination for freed slaves who wished to return to Africa.

Here you go, read up on IQ's and races, they start low at the equator and move up as you go northward. Blacks are lowest, hispanics second lowest, whites in the middle, asians second and certain jews first. Now, look at the societies built by people of the world, a bunch in Europe, asia and some in south America. And, exactly HOW many dynasties in Africa? None!! Africa is fine as a 3rd world continent but you canot force them into a working civilization until they are mentally ready to accept working on something larger than themselves. That's intelligence, realizing you need to give up some personal identity for the benefit of the whole. It's the unlearned that try to outdo each other instead of working together for the common good.

You need a certain IQ to be smart enough to kno how to be "civilized" and unfortuantely, Africa is nowhere near that now.

Exactly the problem the USA is having as all the ex-slaves have had generations here and it's becoming a "me" generation, everyone showing off what they can do. Nobody working together for the good of America, just people separating based on wealth and color. It's ALL IQ!

Foreign meddling in Africa, beginning in the 1600's, has ravaged, pillaged and destroyed the continent. Africa may not have been as advanced as Europe in the 1600's, but it was doing mostly fine. Had foreigners not intervened, it would be much better off today.

Europe started the slave trade, using Africans as slaves. They would pit villages against each other to capture each other's citizens and sell them into slavery, in exchange for guns which encouraged warfare. Ever since Europe started messing with Africa, all it did was encourage warfare so that the continent would be weak and ripe for the taking. Imperialists would often put one minority in charge, and then when they left, put the other in charge, encouraging even more fighting.

precisely. I observed a learn which confirmed that the traditional Dominican became into 50-60% ecu, then 20% Taino + 20% African. whether a Dominican is tremendously darkish, you will nevertheless be conscious that they are going to have ecu-Taino facial beneficial factors which you are going to not often see on african-individuals or mixed blacks. Black human beings in country of america be conscious that Dominicans get assorted love (esp. the ladies human beings) so which you will see assorted bitter black women human beings and men attempt to declare that Dominicans are no longer any diverse than them.

Yes. European imperialism created the problems.

    1. Before Europe invaded Africa, it had some of the richest cultures & history in the world...which they burned and destroyed.

    2. Even though Africa gained "independence," American corporations and European "settlers" still hold the wealth and best land in a tight fist.

    3. European and American businesses hold employment opportunities for Africans...just like in America.

    4. Wage slavery still exists.

    5. Women are exploited...due to the European mentality that was implanted...just like in Afghanistan. Before Europe arrived, Africa didn't have perfect gender equality in every nation, but there was a lot. The workload was separated...so men & women weren't competing for the same jobs and / or fighting for power. There were even female rulers such as Queen Nefertiri, Queen Hatshepsut, Queen Cleopatra, female warriors, female advisors, etc. All African...and all black...dark and light.

    6. Arabs have taken the place of the Europeans.

    7. Europeans "stepped back," but left corruption, immoral dictators and others in power who exploited the power vacuum...just like America did in Iraq when they manipulated events to remove the Shah (who was brutal) but left the door open for the rise of Saddam Hussein.

    8. The top jobs and opportunities in Africa are outsourced or given to foreigners.

    9. The schools in Africa for blacks are poor. Americans like Oprah, Dikembe Mutumbo (black African in the NBA--basketball) have built schools there to try to help the situation.

    10. The Africans who get richer, have better opportunities, are the top intellectuals, the hardest workers either leave Africa to go to Europe or America (just like they do when they rise from the neighborhood "ghettoes" in America), they turn against their own people just like blacks in America that get ahead because they escaped from the horrible conditions, are unable to help because they are doing it alone while thousands of other Africans won't help, they actually help but are called enemies by the white-owned corporations.

Europeans WERE the problem. Arabs as well. They still hold Africa's wealth in their greedy and corrupt grip. Africa has some democracies but even these need to be approved by the United Nations (basically the United States and the European nations in disguise) or they are called illegitimate.

Think about it like this. If a rich tycoon stole everything from you, including your house, and kept you as a slave for a few years then suddenly "let you go"....what could you do?

    1. You couldn't apply for a job because you no longer had a house and might have to go to that same person to get hired.

    2. You live on the street so you most likely couldn't afford tuition, couldn't get baths and couldn't receive mail.

    3. You couldn't get kids, because...man or woman, who would marry a "dirty bum?"

    4. Society would look at you as a lazy-good-for-nothing.

Europe and America need to take responsibility for their crimes and stop brushing over it as if it is in the past. We still talk about the Holocaust and the effect it had on the Jews. We still talk about the World wars and the effect it had on the world. Why do we pretend that the past has no effect on the present...especially when it comes to black people anywhere in the world? If a woman is raped, wouldn't her whole family be affected? She would feel different every time her husband approached her with sex in mind. Her kids would be affected by her emotional breakdowns and need for therapy and other additional problems.

Europe created the present crisis, and needs to own up to their crimes. When murderers kill someone 10 years ago, they are still arrested, right? Time doesn't wipe away crime. Neither does hiding it under a profitable corporation with a fancy name, a powerful & well-groomed executive and a marble building.

A criminal is still a criminal whether he / she lives in a mansion or in a trailer. Crime should not pay and criminals shouldn't be allowed to profit from their crimes.

Edit: Dutch: You are wrong. Africa brought civilization to Europe. They had pyramids, sophisticated construction techniques, scientists, astronomy, an elaborate government, etc. Europe had tribes, warfare and conquest at that time. They (through the Greeks and Romans) stole everything that Africa, Asia and Native Americans had and then claimed that it was "discovered" by them. Do your research, don't just look at information distributed by the people who conquered Africa then re-wrote their history.

No,it's too much government control.Africa is the most resource rich country in the world. If they could find a way to harness that they would be a super-continent.Ever seen their diamond mines? That could be a factor yes.Countries in Africa who got rid of their imperialism earlier are more advanced in various ways (South Africa etc.).

It's the environment the Africans live in. It is hard to start a growing civilization in same thing for South America.

Europe brought civilization to Africa in much the same way that Rome brought civilization to most of Europe. Without European influence, Africans would be much worse off than they are now. The Europeans are wrongly scapegoated by many modern Africans who refuse to accept responsibility for their continent's ills.
