How Will The 09-10 Raptors Do?

10 points to the most insightful answer, just looking for some opinions from other fans around the league.

The Raptors have improved greatly over this offseason. They overcame their swingmen problems by adding Hedo Turkoglu, Demar Derozan, Antonie Wright, and possibly Carlos Delfino to come. This group is much more athletic, defensively poised and offensively sound than last year's squad.

They then added Jarrett Jack to backup Jose Calderon for an impressive pg tandem and traded Jason Kapono for Reggie Evans, and have a strong possibility of bringing back Rasho Nesterovic.

Combine this with a healthy Jose Calderon, and continued progression from Bosh and Bargnani (Bargnani averaged close to 20ppg and 6rpg as a starter after the Raps upgraded their coaching).

So, how do you see them? What are they capable of, and what do they still need to improve?

I think they'll be a 6th seed at best next season. Last season was a complete failure and I think management is attempting to correct their errors. With the acquisition of those aforementioned players, I predict that they will become better offensively which is great. As a result, they'll fare much better in the Eastern Conference this season.

With that being said, they still lack defense which is almost as important (if not more so) as offense. They MAY get Defino (he plays defense) and they have Reggie Evans. Still, other players need to step up and learn to play defense as well.

Chris Bosh has been praised for being the franchise player for the Raptors and for steeping up to that role. As the franchise player, you have to be versatile and master all the essential skills needed to be a superstar basketball player. The problem is, he doesn't play defense (which is weird especially since he is a forward and has that height advantage). It is not like he is incapable of doing so; he is just not trying hard enough in that department.

If the team cannot program into their heads the importance of defense in winning games, this is why I predict they'll be a 6th seed at best. As a result, they will not be able to make it past the first round in the playoffs. The coach (which I am quite iffy on anyway due to his lack of NBA coaching experience...) has to emphasize to the players to develop defense into their game.

If they can actually do that; then they can potentially do well and make it to the 2nd round in the playoffs. My other issue is that their bench may not be strong enough (cause they used a crudload of money on Hedo; but we will see about that...). Finally, Jose needs to stay healthy because he is quite injury prone (which was evident this past season) so I do not know how he'll fare this season (he is a talented guy and I am a huge fan but I don't know).

I would say 5-8th Seed in the East. Really talented roster, they picked up Turk, which is a huge offensive boost for them. DeMar DeRozan will make some kind of a difference offensively/defensively. And to top all that off, an all-star PF, Chris Bosh. Canada is really gonna be noticed next season in sports.

I'm a raptors fan and i know they will make it to at least the second round this season because hedo turkoglu would not let them make an early exit from the playoffs ... he's too experienced to let that happen

Probably make playoffs but first round exit. Marion, Bosh and Hedo good three. Not good enough, if they do not make playoffs, Bosh may leave in 2010
