Can someone be sued for slander for putting your job in jeopardy?

I've been accused of sending someone texts on a blocked number outside of work. I offered all my phone records to them to prove I didn't do it. They still took this to work and talked to my bosses about the issue. Which put my job in jeopardy. What can I do? What process needs to be taken to clear myself and stop the slander?

Update:

My bosses do believe me. It's just the fact this is happening for no reason.

If you loose your job because of this accusation then maybe you have a case for slander (you were actually harmed by what they said). Just b/c your job is "put in jeopardy", you haven't suffered any REAL measureable damages. If you have the phone records to back it up (prove your innocence) then your job should be fine.

  • If your bosses would put your job 'in jeopardy' because of unsubstantiated accusations, you've got bigger problems than this.

State your case, and if they choose not to beleive you, start looking for a new job.
