Does the wireless network card show up in Device Manager?

Did you install the drivers for the network card?

Does it look like the card has power? (Maybe a bad port on the laptop).

Does it show that it is enabled in Network connections?

Did the wireless card come with a Utility to manage it?

If so, try utilizing the card's software to manage it. You may also wish to go to the card's manufacturing website and download new drivers for it.

Does the card show any wireless networks?

You may want to try manually configuring your home wireless network instead of trying to scan for it.

Sorry but you're not being detailed enough.

What kind of wireless card do you have?

Wireless N is the fastest and can connect to the internet at a further distance

Wireless B+G is the weaker card, it cannot connect to the interent unless you are really close the router. If the router has a weak signal then it won't be able to connect either, consider getting a wireless N network card

my friend had that and her laptop was not set to the correct preference or whatever internally.
