  • West Virginia retirement - what is the least humid area?

We were in VA in the Shenandoah area last year and really liked it. We live in No. CA and are thinking of retiring back there. Is WV the same on the other side of the mountains? What would be the best counties or towns on the east side with the best climate? IS VA any better or worse than WV?? we know that property is cheaper in WV and we can afford more there. which is better and why?

  • floors tile alternative?

I bought a new house about 4 years ago. tile have continued to crack. it was proved that the tiles were not laid properly. I saw the evidence myself. I have a settlement from the ins. co. I want to do alternative floorwork. Maybe wood-type. I have a quality house and don't want to make it cheap but I hate the ugly grout. any suggestions.

  • tile floors in newer house continue to crack?

house is 3 years old. floor is raised wood. tiles are spanish type about 16". they are in a diagonal design rather than squared. a year ago I remove rugs to spring clean and there were many cracked edges and several hairline cracks - one continuous over the whole floor. they removed about 13 or 15 tiles and replaced and the tiles didn't match in size exactly so the groutlines looked bad. they added support under the house (it sits high up). They said the subfloor was correct, but I am a senior and alone and didn't know the difference, so had to believe them. Now there are at least 3 cracked through the middle, several hairlines, and some corners in all different areas of the house.

Please tell me your thoughts and how I should proceed - I can't deal with this for another year - last time it dragged out for 4 months and I had missing tile for the summer. I feel ill from this - it is my whole life savings and I've lost $100 on the house as it is.

I just don't feel that they were laid in correctly to begin with. should I get an attorney? will that cost me a lot? I can not afford it.

PS - at least 2 other houses on this block were built at the same time and had the tiles done by the same contractor. they were on concrete, but the houses had to be completely torn out and redone last year due to incorrect subflooring issues. they said mine was different as it is on wood, but its still bad. Please help.

  • radio music coming from attic at night?

we have high ceilings and the bedrooms are on the side of the house where the Satellite dish (dish network) is mounted. there also is the heating unit mounted to the roof by large metal rods. on the same side.

since we got the dish (we think), we have been hearing a radio station coming thru the vents in the ceiling and keeping us awake all night. it is driving us crazy and we can't sleep. everything in our house is shut off completely at night. no neighbors have anything on and it's perfectly quiet outside.

there is also some sort of radio tower on a hill a couple miles away. on that side of the house.

any ideas to help us?? we don't even know what type of person to call to be able to help us figure this out. it's in all rooms on that side of house, so we can't even change rooms to sleep in.

    thanks

  • mysterious radio station sounds heard in home at night?

a Best Answer for anyone who really has this answer...

Periodically at night between midnight and about 5 am I hear what sounds like music from a neighbors house or my house in another room just loud enough for me to know what it is. Last night it lasted all night. All of my TVs etc and computer are turned off. I thought it might be my small radio clock coming on and turned on very low.

When I walk around and put my ear to all things and even the walls, I can not pinpoint it's origin. Outside it's total quiet. It's loud enough that I can tell it's a radio station with music.

There is a radio type tower a couple miles away and my roof dish faces it. Also a small airport a mile away.

There is usually annoying humming that preceeds this.

Any clues?? you can email me also.

  • floor tiles have several hairline cracks and chipped corners. The house is just 2 years old?

I live by myself and no abuse has occurred to the floors. They seems to have developed over the past 6 months or so this last winter. in several different areas, not just one. One spreads over about 10 or 12 tiles. most of them start under the cabinets or the stove.

The two other houses built at the same time as this one had tile problems and the builder just redid the tile in them.

I was told that there is a 10 year warranty on tile work in California. The builder is putting me off as he has done on everything else.

Any legal or tile expert advice?

  • I'M confused about your country or state?

how am I supposed to know the answers when I don't know the country you live in?

  • women alert to dangerous scam?

I am wasting 10 of my points to notify you all of this: I am in California.

FYI so be careful. If it is safe take a picture of the people and their car with plates to give to cops. Don't take any chances though. Make sure you do it when you are safe in your car and leaving or have a way to escape though. Otherwise just say no and get the hell out of there.

MAKE SURE YOUR DAUGHTERS KNOW AND EVERYONE ELSE !!!

This is something that happened to us on the way back from vacation last week. At first I didn't think much of it until now. The reason we were a little suspicious is we had been riding in a jeep all day with 100 degree temps and we stopped at a truck stop for something to drink. When I was leaving, a young girl followed me out and asked what kind of cologne I was wearing.

I don't wear any perfume. Also after 7 hours in the car sweating, I don't think you could tell if I was or was not wearing any cologne. We just got in the jeep and said no thanks.

Then it was about 3 weeks ago, I was at a service station in Birmingham getting gas. It was about 9:30 PM . I was approached by 2 men and 2 women in a car. The man that was driving asked me 'What kind of perfume do you wear?'

I was a bit confused and I asked him 'Why?'

He said, 'We are selling some name brand perfumes, at cheap prices..' I said I had no money. He then reached out of the car and handed me paper that was laminated. It

had many perfumes on it I looked quickly at it and gave it back. I said, have no money. He said it is OK, we take check, cash, or credit cards. Then the people in the car began to laugh. I just got in my car and said no thanks.

Then I received this e-mail yesterday and it sent chills up my spine.

Please read this. It is no joke. Here is the e-mail I was sent:

    Dear Friends:

I know not all of you are women that I am sending this to, but am hoping you will share this with your wives, daughters, mothers, sisters, etc. Our world seems to be getting crazier by the day. Pipe bombs in mail boxes and sickos in parking lots with perfume. Be careful.

I was approached yesterday afternoon around 5:30 PM in the Wal-Mart parking lot by two males asking what kind of perfume I was wearing. Then they asked if I'd like to sample some fabulous scent they were willing to sell me at very reasonable rate. I probably would have agreed had I not received an e-mail warning of a 'Wanna smell this perfume' scam.

The men continued to stand between parked cars, I guess to wait for someone else to hit on. I stopped a lady going towards them, pointing at them and told her about how I was sent an e-mail at work about someone walking up to you at the malls or in parking lots and asking you to SNIFF PERFUME that they are selling at a cheap price or at least compare

to which one you like best.

THIS IS NOT PERFUME...IT'S ETHER !

When you sniff it, you'll pass out. They'll take your wallet, your valuables and heaven knows what else. If it were not for this e-mail, I probably would have sniffed the 'perfume' but thanks to the generosity of an e-mailing friend, I was spared whatever might have happened to me. I wanted to do the same for you.

PLEASE PASS THIS ALONG TO ALL YOUR WOMEN FRIENDS AND PLEASE BE ALERT AND

BE AWARE. IF YOU ARE A MAN AND RECEIVE THIS, PASS IT ON TO YOUR WOMEN

    FRIENDS.

Ladies, this happened to me yesterday and I didn't smell the perfume either, thanks to this email. This is true. Believe me, I know. I was over by Big Lots in the parking lot at lunch time when I was approached.

So either day or night, it does not matter. There were 3 guys together when I was approached. I called the police when I got back to my desk.

Like the email says above, LET EVERYONE KNOW ABOUT THIS, YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY, CO-WORKERS, whomever. It helped me. The first thing that popped into my head was this e-mail warning.

  • Bedroom floor vibrating and making bed lightly tremor like earthquake or distant train ?

This is my third winter of dealing with this horrible problem. Some of you will remember you your help and support has been wonderful, but it is happening again.

It wakes me up at night (every night is different and sometimes it doesn't do it for no reason) and keeps me awake and makes me ill and almost crazy.

Through hundreds of hours and keeping logs last year of temps and and other things, I know one thing for sure - it does not do it from May until October when it gets cold.

At one point a new water pressure regulator was put in as the water pressure was very high. It is not the heating system in the attic, there is no attic other fans, I am on propane, no water runs at night, I live by myself, I am on septic with no pumps, the bedroom sits high about 6-7 feet on the ground, the pipes run under the bedroom and are all plastic stuff, there are no water leaks, the house is 2 years old, there is a big ugly telephone electric pole on that side of the house, an electrician and PGE said oh no it couldn't be that, the vibration seems to come from the floors up thru the metal bed frame and I feel it and hear it thru my pillow and the mattress, I have empty fields on each side of me, I have neighbors across street on community water, the water district said there are no pumps for water or sewer under the street, the propane company said it couldn't be that even though the big tank is under the bedroom window, by hot water heater is propan only, I leave my heater off at night. It happens mostly in the early morning like from 4:30 to 7:30, but that varies too. Last night it did it from when I laid down at 8:00 until about 1:00 and then completely stopped and then started again at 6:00 or until about 7:30 am.

The morning before it only did it at 6:15 am until 7:45.

I'm going nuts and last year the builder said I was nuts and wouldn't help me and now my warranty is up.

As solutions I've thought of something under the bed to buffer it, moving the bed, more support under the house (though that would be expensive), a new type of bed frame, or just burning the stupid house down!

Sometimes there are related humming or a big cat purring motor type sound or like wind rushing thru the attic, or a big fan running lopsided somewhere but there is nothing and it stops completely in the warm months.

I have lots more info in my notes that I'm probably forgetting.

Thank you for your help. PS I live in No Calif. this doesn't seem to start until temps go into the mid 40s at night. It probably does it too in day, but I'm not laying down. I don't seem to feel it in other rooms although I did feel it on the sofa before they changed the water pressure regulator.

  • front part of kitchen sick faucet came off?

This is the kind of faucet where you push on the front part to do plain water flow or spray. That piece where the water actually comes out pulled off. It also is a removable hand sprayer with a metal coiling hose which pulls out.

I can pull out the end of the coiled hose and I can fit it back into the nozzle, but it won't stay hooked. The nozzle which came off has some male screw ridges, but there seems to be nothing inside for it to actually screw onto and hold.

The smaller end of the metal coiled hose which pulls out fits neatly onto or into the end of the nozzle piece, but if I pull on the nozzle at all it comes off and water shoots out all over the place.

Is it possible that there is another small piece which would hold them together? I didn't find anything on the floor or in the sink.

Do you think I'll have to replace the whole quit expensive faucet?

The faucet has initials FP on the front.

  • light bulb in refrigerator explodes?

I was cleaning my refrigerator and noticed that a new bag of chocolate was against an exposed lightbulb in back above the veg drawer.

the lightbulb was covered with chocolate and without thinking I started to wipe it off with a washrag, and it exploded. I almost had a heart attach, and was wondering why the lightbulb was exposed like that! It could have been a bottle of liquid that leaked!

then I thought I might have been electricuted.

Now there is only the filament of the bulb. I am unable to unplug my refrig as it is too tight against the wall and the space is too small.

Does the light go off when the door is closed? I had had it opened quite a while while cleaning. Will I get electricuted if I unscrew the filamint to put in another new bulb when it's cold? should it be exposed? should I wear rubber gloves?

  • sister's behavior confusing and upsetting me?

my sister is 3 years older than I am. I am 60. she was diagnosed with stage IV cancer a year ago and is doing quite well under the circumstances.

Last Christmas she laid out a family album and in it she had placed an old wedding picture of me at age 25 when I had a short very bad mistake of a marriage to a bad person. My daughters now 24 and 25 saw the picture and were upset. They knew I had been married before a long time ago, but seeing the picture upset them. and it upset me that she would put it in there.

When I questioned her about it and told her it upset me, she just said "well you gave it to me. I'll just have to put the album away when you are here."

Her insensitivity hurt and confused me. I tried talking to her again about it a couple days ago, as I have still not resolved it in my mind, and she bacame very defensive about it.

She is definitely older and much smarter than I am - I am clear on that- but I don't get this.
