A close friends mom is dying...?

My friend Michelle and I have known each other since age 5, were 39 now. Michelle's mom was just recently diagnosed with an aggressive lung cancer, her mom has been given a 12% chance of surviving 1 year.

Michelle's mom is 60 and her dad is 58. They have known each other since age's 7 & 9 and have been married since age 17 & 19. Neither have ever been with another person in their lives romantically so they are all the other knows.

Michelle's dad said (and the family believes him) that he will not live without his wife and the thought of him dying too is really messing with Michelle's head. Michelle just called me a bit ago and I can hear the hurt in her voice. She told me she is afraid her mom & dad will leave for a vacation and just drive off of a cliff ending it together. Michelle also told me her parents are updating their will here soon.

I do my best to be there whenever Michelle calls me because she means a lot to me deep in my heart but I am just unsure what to say when she tells me what her dad plans. It's hard to see Michelle in person during this time of her life because we live about 2 hours away from each other.

What should I say? What do I do?

Mary in Camden, MI

PS~

Having her dad admitted into a mental hospital is not an option considering her moms health and her dad is far from nuts. He's actually a very well known liked business owner in their city.

Update:

Michelle's parents sadly do not believe in God so introducing them to God is not an option I would guess. Though Michelle does believe in God. Regardless of their personal religious beliefs though, they are good people. They have always been excellent parents and grandparents, great providers and just good neighbors.

I am not close enough to Michelle's dad to talk with him. I mean I hugged him and her mom recently when I was leaving Michelle's son's high school graduation party but it's not like I feel comfy enough to just pay him a visit or call him.

And yes, Michelle does have 1 sibling, an older brother that since his mom's diagnosis received news from his wife that she was divorcing him but would wait until his mom passed on. So the poor guy has a lot on his shoulders too right now.

And Michelle's son was accepted in Michigan State Collage and will be leaving to live on campus in the fall, this is Michelle's only child.

Update 2:

I just feel soooooooooooooooooo horrible for Michelle and the physical distance between us makes me feel even worse that I can't just be by her side to offer my shoulder and my hugs when she is in such need.

I honestly don't know. I'm so sorry, I can't imagine the strain on you, but for your friend, it must be horrible. Does she have any siblings to talk to? I think she needs concilling, to make sure she copes. This story like broke my heart..

Your friend's parents need to be introduced to God and the word of God. Faith is a great thing to have in very critical situations. God specializes in the impossible. He can heal your friends mom and help the father to stay positive. Both of them need to think positively and put their trust in the God. By them trusting in God all things will work out. It will help if you go to your local church and put them up for prayer. Where there is two or three gathered together in his name He (God) will be in the mist of them. God is a prayer answering Savior.

just be the best friend to her that you possibly can. encourage her to tell her dad how she feels. if you know her dad (like sometimes friends dads feel like your second dad, ya know?) then you can talk to him about it, but if you are uncomfortable with this then dont do it because it needs to be done with confidence. just always be there for her. whatever you do: do not get scared of the situation and back away. you are still her friend no matter what and let her see that.
