My dog has an irritaion around the eye.?

His eyes are all red and swollen. I have had a look and there doesn't seem to be anything in his eyes. I have already booked an appointment to see the vet but is there anything I can do to ease things for him? At the moment i am bathing round his eyes with a weak saltwater solution.

Update:

To EssJay

I didn't say that I was putting saltwater INTO my dogs eyes, but AROUND my dogs eyes. I have now been to the vet and he says that i have been doing the right thing by doing this. He also give me tablets for my dog and told me to carry on with the bathing. It has been diagnosed as an allergy.

the eye is a very delicate area so there's not much more to do than what you've done.

    good job :D

Oh my salt is not a good thing to use around the eyes. If you brew up some tea and let it cool down then bath around his eyes with that, it will be very soothing and help with the swelling also.

  • This could be an emergency situation. If you want to save his eyes, call the vet back and say it is an emergency and go now. This *could be* glaucoma. #

Never take chances with eyes. Never put salt into a dog's eyes FGS !
