NASA explored the planet Mars to discover the possibilities for life on Mars (past, present or our own in the future). The Mars Program has developed an exploration strategy known as "Follow the Water." Following the water begins with an understanding of the current environment on Mars. They want to explore observed features like dry riverbeds, ice in the polar caps and rock types that only form when water is present. They want to look for hot springs, hydrothermal vents or subsurface water reserves. They want to understand if ancient Mars once held a vast ocean in the northern hemisphere as some scientists believe and how Mars may have transitioned from a more watery environment to the dry and dusty climate it has today. Searching for these answers means delving into the planet's geologic and climate history to find out how, when and why Mars underwent dramatic changes to become the forbidding, yet promising, planet we observe today.

although mars sounds good and all at first. in order to make it habitable to humans to go out and breathe the atmosphere there it would take a very long time, using technique with plants and other such things. so the only reason i can think of for NASA to go to mars would be for strip mining minerals not readily available here on earth. a major element, which we currently don't have a shortage for, would be iron. i do believe that the surface of mars is composed mainly of iron oxide. yet the weight of iron makes this completely not cost effective. but mining on mars could still be an option for other trace elements.

Nasa isn't going to Mars, but their talking about sending some astronauts there. I believe it would be one of the greatest accomplishments in human history. Also it would be a stepping stone towards colonizing our solar system and eventually our galaxy. Mars also has many untapped resources that we are running out of here on Earth. And if we can successfully colonize Mars it will give the human race a chance to survive in the unfortunate event that we are destroyed here on Earth.

    WHY NOT???

actually by going on mars nasa is preparing a cradle for our coming generation coz may be by the time we say goodbye nothing will be left good on this earth.like human race our beloved earth too is ageing so why not give it a little rest and go and settle somewhere else in universe anyways if we dont find new shelter for ourselves one day earth has to throw us away!!!!

although it may answer questions about the universe and all of its mysteries nasa probly shouldnt go to mars. look what we have done to earth: polution, rising sea levels, ruining the earth's atmosphere. aka global warming. think of all the possibilities of ruining yet another planet. as technology advances so does our urge to ruin the world and create something that may end the civilization as we know it. but then again maybe mars is our last hope for survival in the near future.
