Can you suggest a sport for me?

I recently took up a 6 week fencing course but can't continue due to cost. To continue it's a £100 club joining fee, £35 a month session fees and £215 in equipment. I'm a big lad and liked the fact that this sport pushed me because i don't have much willpower to push myself and i was excercising whilst having fun so you don't notice. I liked the competitiveness a little bit but prefered the technical aspect of the sport the most. I don't do well in single sports like swimming and running because of the lack of drive to push myself and I'm not a fan of big team sports like football and rugby or track and field sports. Tennis is an alternative but struggling to find a local course. Would love to hear other suggestions.

Alas.... The sad story of the expenses of fencing. I am an epee fencer myself and have been fencing for over 3 years now. I know from looking at other clubs fees and stuff that fencing can be a very expensive sport. I personally havent really run into that because I started fencing at a local community college club that was open to the public. There was no cost, we met Monday and Wednesday 7-9 and it was open fencing.... everybody helped everyone else, coach would fence and help out, and you learned at your own pace. The only cost that you had was if you decided to eventually get equipment (the club provided it for beginners), and for insurance you had to get a USFA membership (about 50-60 dollars for the entire year). The only other thing was if you decided you wanted to go to tournaments which cost about 10-20 dollars depending on where you went.

My suggestion for you is to find out what is the national fencing organization for your country and see if they have a list of clubs and such, see if there is anything cheaper around. Sometimes if you have a college near you they will let you join there. If they dont provide equipment and such look around online at maybe ebay, or just compare prices (absolute fencing, Leon Paul, Blue Gauntlet, etc.). You could also get some friends to join you and start your own practices. Its hard when you find a sport you like and are unable to do it because of expenses. I really hope this helps. Best wishes whatever you decide to do!!!

I live in the US and the new up and coming sport is Lacrosse. I love it. They say it's the fastest sport out there and it really is. I play for a club so it's expensive for me but that's because I'm defense and Goalie (we need a lot of pads for that).

It's not like fencing or any of that. It's like hockey, soccer, all that stuff, so you might not like it.

How can you do well in any sport if you don't push yourself. You say you don't do well in single sports because you can't push yourself. You can forget about team sports as well then.

I suggest maybe you take up golf. Its fun, you can take a few lessons and enjoy yourself without having to be great.
