  • Baby bottle steam sterilizers, microwave VS. electric?

We are expecting a baby and we are looking to buy a steam sterilizer. However I am a little confused which type to go for.

The microwave one seem a lot cheaper because they don't really do much and they manage to sterilize a bottle much quicker. So why would I bother to spend all that extra money on an electric one?

The only 'benefit' i can tell is that they stay sterile for longer like 24 hours but surely the minute you take one out the rest are no longer sterile so you'd have to do something with them all. The really expensive ones seem to be digital ones that tell you how long they have left before they need doing again but surely your baby would want all those before they got a chance to go bad again.

From what I understand so far, I can sterilize a batch up, fill them with boiled water and put them all into the fridge for the day until they are needed and then i fill them with powder.

Am i missing something or are these electrical ones not worth the spend over a microwave one?

  • Do men do aqua aerobics?

I'm tempted to join one at my gym to see what it's like, especially seeing as I'm just getting over the muscle stiffness from a body pump class i did (or over did!) on Thursday night. Will i look stupid amongst a lot of women or am i likely to make them uncomfortable?

  • Day out for 30th brithday?

I'm looking for something different to do for my 30th birthday. Something different to remember and something that doesn't involve drinking, we can spend the whole day at or at least a half day and not too expensive for my guests. Probably be about 6-8 of us.

Some ideas already thought about are: Theme park, clay pigeon shooting, snowboarding, quasar/paintball and karting.

any others, the more different and memorable the better :)

  • Can you suggest a sport for me?

I recently took up a 6 week fencing course but can't continue due to cost. To continue it's a £100 club joining fee, £35 a month session fees and £215 in equipment. I'm a big lad and liked the fact that this sport pushed me because i don't have much willpower to push myself and i was excercising whilst having fun so you don't notice. I liked the competitiveness a little bit but prefered the technical aspect of the sport the most. I don't do well in single sports like swimming and running because of the lack of drive to push myself and I'm not a fan of big team sports like football and rugby or track and field sports. Tennis is an alternative but struggling to find a local course. Would love to hear other suggestions.

  • I think I have a binge eating disorder?

I am a 29 yr old male and have been binge eating since I was about 15, which got far worse from the age of 22. For some unknown reason, I looked at what I was doing to myself and looked up for help and realised that I fulfill every criteria of a binge eating disorder. There are some times in my life that clearly point to why I started and have given me the poor self image that I have today such as child abuse, and 2 cheating girlfriends. My sex drive with my lovely girlfriend of 2 years is pretty non-existant

To give you an example, last night instead of eating a dinner (I live on my own) I went out and deliberately bought a binge feast and ate a whole loaf of fruit bread, a large toffee sundae dessert and two cream cakes and I felt like crap emotionally and physically straight after and hate myself for doing it but can't stop. This happens at least 3 times a week :,(

I don't want this to control my life any more and I want a fresh start. I don't feel like I want to speak to my regular GP to be talked into excercise, diets, drugs, etc. What I think will help me the most is support, talking, advice, suggestions from people who know about eating disorders and can't help me solve the issues i have BEFORE trying to lose the weight. I live in Essex in England and would love for anyone to provide me advice on where to go for this help. Also anyone with the same experiences to comment would also be great.

I know this is my first step in admitting a problem and i want it to be a positive one because I know this will kill me. I am already over 18 stone.

  • What damage may I have done to my car?

Firstly I must state I am a complete idiot in understanding cars so you may have to explain in easy terms. I have a 2l petrol Citreon C5 '02 plate. I just recently got an antipollution fault warning on my dash. I put it into a local garage but they recommended I go to a main dealer to read off the error code from my car in detail. Anyway.... as I got home I opened the boot to find the oil I topped up my car with and realised that i'd put half a litre of Gastrol GTX Diesel oil in my car which again is a petrol car. Think i've found the source of the problem. What do you think i may have damaged if at all, and do you think a simple oil change will do the trick?

  • My rabbit is scared of fresh mint leaves, any ideas why?

I've had my rabbit for 2 weeks now and thought i'd treat her today to some fresh mint leaves which i've researched to be a good treat for them. They were ok with me approaching the cage etc like they normally were. They came to see what I had in my hand but the minute she sniffed it, she freaked out making it clear she wanted out and the minute I let her out she ran under the sofa. She's loves parsley but she's new to mint as far as i know?

Is it possible that maybe she has associated mint with something bad, like she was provided some in transit between breeder and pet shop maybe?? Or did the new smell freak her out? Anyone else experienced similar with their rabbits?

  • Begginer rabbit keeper questions?

I have just bought two beautiful female Netherland dwarf rabbits as indoor pets. As a newbie I have two questions:

Firstly, I have read that I need to keep fresh hay in their cage every day. They seem to be eating loads of it. Should I be limiting their hay intake just as much as any other type of food?

Secondly, I have lined the cage with dust free wood chip and used hay for sleeping area and litter area. The problem I have is not with the rabbit smell but in fact with the wood chip smell. It's the wood chips making my place smell like a hutch, not the rabbits. Are there any good alternatives for cage lining?

  • Can you suggest a pet?

I live in an aparment and my landlord has cleared me for caged animals (although i will be letting it out very reguarly to play with so don't worry about that). I preferably wanted two rats because they appear to be very friendly and very intelligent. However, my girlfriend is totally frightened by the idea of rats (unjust I know but i've struggled to convince her otherwise). What is a good alternative (preferablly mammal rather than lizard or snake etc,)

  • Types of rat question?

I want to buy 2 female rats but confused by the types. I know there aren't breeds but different coat types and ear types. I like the ear type of dumbo rats and I like the coat colour of Russian Blue rats but.... is there such a thing as a Russian Blue Dumbo? Do all coat types like hooded, agouti, cinammon etc all come in dumbo or standard ear types??

  • Aquarium salt and filter usage?

I need to add some aquarium salt to my tank for medication purposes. With the chemical medications the bottles say to remove the carbon sponge and turn off any UV sterilizers I presume because they remove the medication.. I have both of these. Does this apply to salt medication too? or can it pass through the filter ok?

  • What will my view be like at Wembley Arena?

I am treating my girlfriend to see Dancing on Ice Tour at wembley arena. All the good tickets were gone and the best I could get were to the side of the Ice at the very back row (N7 row W) anyone have any experice of Wembley arena and can tell me are these tickets going to be ok to see anything? The ice is where the floor seating (stalls) would normally be.

  • Am I Ill or Overdoing the Diet?

Very recently I weighed just over 17 stone, I'm 29 and my height is 5'10".

I have recently been dieting on a low calorie diet, drinking water and keeping my calories to around 1,000 per day.

I have been hitting the Wii fit for around an hour every day

Now in 2 weeks I have lost 8lbs

Recently I have been getting some symptoms similar to flu. My skin is on fire to the touch, i run hot and cold, and i get dizzy spells and headache.

Am I overdoing it or is it just an illness?

  • Filter media question?

When I first bought my Juwel aquairum about a year ago the instructions for setting up the filter system sponges were as follows and even included an initial set of sponges (order from inlet to outlet)

    Polypad

    Carbon

    Nitrate removal

    Coarse sponge

    2 x fine sponges

I have been changning the sponges as recommended.

However recently i have notice that Juwel have been producing a sponge sized box containing balls so that the bacteria has surface area to grow on

I've seen these in other filtration systems but i presumed that the fine blue sponges were doing that job in the Juwels instead.

I have space for one of these in my sponge baskets but is it worth adding or maybe even replacing a blue sponge for? Obviously the more living space for bacteria the better but is it worth putting money up for this, will the quality of the water increase at all when the blue sponges already do that work?

If it's worth adding where in the chain of sponges should it sit??
