What's the strangest food you've discovered wasn't vegetarian?

I think for me it was the Tropicana orange juice with added fish oil.

Update:

Becky - Not all of them, but the Heart Healthy was "Omega 3 enriched" and rather then flax they used fish oil.

    Dry roasted peanuts.

I accidentally ate a couple and then looked at the ingredients.I figured peanuts equal vegan. They contained gelatin.Which, I found rather odd.

And the Tropicana juice.I saw it at the supermarket the other day.It even said fish oil in the ingredients list, along with a cute little fish cartoon.Apparently, having fish oil in juice is something to be proud of.

I think the strangest thing is Cochineal, a red food coloring made from an insect. It's used in some bottled beverages. I never would have expected that one.

The other one is varak, a silver coloring used in some Indian sweets. At least some of the time it's made using animal intestines. That seems pretty bizarre when you consider that India has had a vegetarian tradition since ancient times.

I found a "lower calorie" vegetable soup that has "chicken" listed like 20 something ingredients in... but there are not chucks of chicken in it! And it doesn't say "chicken stock" or "broth"

I got the diarrhea rumbles later though, with no diarrhea.

I didn't expect ranch to have anchovies. I thought I found a good substitute for meat in tacos, then found refried beans had lard. Same with pie crust!!

    Edit: I second the altoids!

Most wine is not vegetarian. Not that I care for wine at all.
