when renting a car should cruise control be standard equipment on an intermediate car rental. Rented w/ AARP?
I rented a car through enterprise for a week , booked through AA RP, and told the service rep that I would be driving over a 1,000 miles one way, yet he failed to mention that the rental didn't have cruise control. I have never rented a car that didn't have it. There was no option on the request form, and personally never thought to ask if it came standard issue, the agent never suggested upgrade to a car that did have it. would you think Pontiac G5, Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Accent are autos that are similar when renting an intermediate auto. Passed up on Budget & economy rentals and chose the third level up Intermediate.
I realize that cruise is not always standard on a car, when renting through AARP& a female which suggests that the renter is an older person would you not consider this a factor & either rent her a car equipped with cruise knowing that the driving distance was over 1,000 miles one way, or at least mention this fact to her & suggest she go for an upgrade to higher class? would you consider a Pontiac G5, Nissan Sentra, Hyundai Accent & Toyota corrolla to be in the same class of vehicle?
Final result, cruise control is considered to be standard equipment on an Intermediate size car with Enterprise,as the district manager informed me yesterday while refunding my money.A Hyundai Accent is actually in the Budget class(bottom level) not the imtermediate which is the 3rd level up.The man was appalled that one of his managers would try to (his words) scam me.The manager & 6 employees agreed they would'nt drive 100 mi.w/o cruise much less1,000.It's great that at 58 yr old you are still resiliant & patient enough to drive 1600 mi w/o cruise. As far as controlling my speed that was never an issue, the issue was that I was given a car that was not considered to be in the car class that I had chosen and PAID for and had every right to expect. As they say you get what you pay for, once reported to the right person that is exactly what I got.So I am very pleased, some times it does help to stand up & say no, I won't allow you to take advantage of me.I hope others will do the same.

Well the price is actually more of what sets the car classes. Not just the size of the car. I would say that the person who rented the car to you should have said something to you just to be nice. And if they didn't have any cars in the class you reserved with cruise then he/she should have at-least offered you to upgrade. But did you rent from an airport location? If yes, then he/she probably didn't even think of or know the car didn't have cruise.

While cruise control is standard or optional on just about every vehicle built for our market there is no rule that says rental companies have to offer it. After all, cruise control is a luxury convenience not a necessity. My vehicle does not have cruise control and I have driven it on many trips that exceeded a thousand miles or more. My last one was moving across the country and I did 1600 miles.
EDIT - I'm 58 years old - I rarely use cruise control. If one requires cruise control to maintain a steady rate of speed then they should be considering an alternate form of transport. As I said before, it is a luxury convenience; it is not a driving necessity, nor should it ever be.
