Hey there. I had the E74 message not long ago. They had to replace the motherboard inside the xbox. Good news though the warranty for the 3 red lights and 1 red light E74 has been extended to 3 years. Meaning all you have to do is go to https://service.xbox.com/servicehome.aspx?mkt=en-g... Then click on sign in and then fill out the details to get your console sent away and repaired for free if you have had it less than 3 years.

I sent my console away and it took 1 week and a day from the day they picked it up. The repair service is very good.

    Good Luck!

Xbox 360: One red light flashes on the Ring of Light

    SYMPTOMS

You see the lower-right quadrant of the Ring of Light flash red on the front of the Xbox 360 console. Additionally, you do not receive an error message.

If one red light flashes and you receive an error message, there may be a different problem. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

    CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the Xbox 360 console experiences a hardware failure.

    THINGS TO TRY

    1. Turn off the console, disconnect and reconnect all cables, and then turn the console back on.

    2. Turn off the console, and then disconnect any connected accessories, such as controllers, Xbox 360 Memory Units, and the Xbox 360 Hard Drive. With these accessories removed, restart the console to see whether the problem persists and to pinpoint whether it is the console or an accessory.

    3. If you continue to experience this problem, contact Xbox Customer Service.

Note If the agent cannot help you resolve this issue, you will have to return the console to Microsoft for repair.

not sure what to say so am assuming that your console is older then a year so it still not covered under the 1 year warranty?

well am not sure if it will work I would wrap it in a few towels and let it run for 30 min and then let it cool down for a few and then try to turn it on see if tha fixes the issue or who knows you just might get the 3 red lights.

Good luck, sorry for your xbox troubles

The E74 error is caused when there's a video problem, either because the audio/video cable is broken or when the Xbox 360 hardware scaler chip is damaged. As of April 14, 2009, the E74 error is now covered by the three-year extended warranty, and customers who previously paid Microsoft for out-of-warranty service to correct the E74 error will receive a refund.

You need to call them. 1-800-4MY-XBOX for customer support, or dial 425-635-7180

Error E74 means Input/Output Hardware Error.

There is high chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip near the AV cable connection). It can also be caused by a faulty AV cable so check that first.

Unfortunately, Microsoft has to fix the scaler chip. But it is covered under warranty!

    Good luck to you.

I believe 1 red light is just a warning, its 2/3 you have to worry about. It may have over heated

You'd be best to ring them, I tried emailing them when my headset broke and they emailed back saying I had to ring.
