RABBIT HELP PLEASE! Doe has some problems...?
I was getting a few rabbits ready for a show tomorrow and was checking over my Jr. doe. I found a slit in the skin and a scab on either side under her vent. I'm guessing this has been caused by flies since she's never been bred or been housed with a buck, but I'm not sure. Don't tell me to take her to a vet because I do have experiance with rabbits and am sure I can handle this myself. If it comes to it she will be taken to our vet but getting an appointment is impossible spur of the moment like this.
What's causing this and how can I treat it?
Tell me this, if you felt confident that you could help your own animal without paying a ridiculous fee to have her get a shot or be told what you did wrong would you take that oppertunity and try to take care of your pet without the help of a busy vet who doesn't have all the time in the world?
Just think about it.
And don't suggest that I don't love my rabbit because I have given up alot for my pets and will do anything to save her. I'd just like to try to do it myself before paying a king's ransom.

Hey I know a lot of cures but I need more info. first I want to make sure its a cut? not her sint glands that need cleaning. could you take a pic for me? are there any maggots in it?
if there are maggots the best thing I have found to kill them is screw worm spray. then I use blue kote on it to help it heal. but you won't want to take her to a show because it dies every thing blue.

Sounds like vent disease, you will have to treat with an antibiotic. If you don't want to take it to a vet, I would try to contact another breeder who has seen this and dealt with this before. I would not breed her until you get it taken care of and you might be DQ'd at the show. Just a heads up. Good Luck

It sounds like it was caused by a bot fly. Just make sure it is clean and put krona on it. Krona is a ointment that you can find at any farm supply place.

If you really care for your pet, you would take her to the vet as soon as something was wrong.
