Vinegar in small bowls strategically placed can work wonders. I also would squeeze some fresh lemon into a Pyrex-type measuring cup, at least a two-cup size is my recommendationn, and 1 cup of water and run on high for a few minutes. That will deodorize the microwave.

Febreeze the curtains, furniture, anything covered in cloth that would have absorbed the smell.
Put baking soda on the carpet and let it sit for an hour before vacuuming.
The smell is God-awful, isn't it?

Whenever something like that happens, we just boil some cinnamon sticks on the stove in a pot with the lid off. The smell permeates the house and the smell always goes away.
Hope this helps,

Only time will really work. You could burn incense or sprinkle some of the carpet 'smell good' products around or buy some of the gazillions of air deodorizers on the market.
