I would delete everything off the hard drive and reformat it then reinstall windows so the computer will think it's brand new. Then you can be sure it has no bugs.

You can run chkdsk (checkdisk) or scandisk from dos to make sure the hard drive surface is intact. If there's any bad sectors, this should automatically fix them.

Running a windows operating system on the internet without an antivirus is like having sex with forty hookers daily and not using a condom. It's not a question of if you'll get a virus, it's a matter of when.

Free online anti virus demos ARE viruses. If you absolutely MUST use one because you have no way of purchasing a real antivirus then at least get one from the open source community and not just any free crap you find.

Depending on what you use your computer for, you might want to go with using a linux operating system. They're absolutely free. They're much more secure and stable. They're faster and lighter on the computer. The only problem is that you may have to try several different flavors of linux before you find one that will work with your hardware.

Mandriva and Ubuntu are among the easiest to use for people with little computer knowledge. I recommend you don't start with the latest edition but rather that you start with the release from last year or even the one before it as with open source software, the longer it's been in use, the more the bugs have been worked out.

If you have enough room on your hard drive, you can install linux without getting rid of windows. This way you can try it out and see how you like it before taking the plunge both feet. All you need is a flashdrive or a dvd burner and internet to get linux for free.

It doesn't sound like a motherboard issue but it sounds like you've got some registry errors that are probably caused by a nasty virus. If left unchecked, these worm viruses CAN infect your motherboard, so I would NOT keep using it like that until you get the problem resolved.

Tell her to make sure she backs up all her drivers on a disk before formatting the hard drive. Especially the driver for your ethernet card. She may have to boot windows in "safe mode" to do this as it sounds like she can't even use regular windows for long before getting the blue screen. Also, make sure you have your product key to register windows if you're gonna keep using microsoft.

Source(s): try threatfire , pc tools firewall and security suite or clamwin. They're all lousy as far as protection goes, but it's better than going naked and you can upgrade them when you get some money.

A computer's registry is one big database that has numerous files, options, and settings. These settings and options keep changing with every second of you using your PC and can lead to the damage of some of these settings. This causes errors to show up and the computer to have a BSOD. Registry cleaners http://computer-e-book-money.com/ software scan the computer's errors and matches all files and settings with the applications that use them. If it identifies any file or setting to be damaged, missing, or corrupted, it provides you with an updated list of the same and also repairs these errors. Therefore, if your computer keeps crashing and need to fix blue screen of death a good registry cleaner is all you need. Your computer can also cause problems because of redundant files in its registry. Registry cleaners identify all these redundant and junk files that were left over during the uninstalling process of hardware of software and delete them. This makes sure that the "computer keeps having the BSOD" issue is taken care of.

You should have a virus scanner if your on the internet along with a firewall. Also you need to scan for Malware. Fortunately, they are both free at these sights

As for your Blue screen of death it could be anything. Don't know your Operating System or setup but the above will help. Good Luck.

I had that same problem. I took it to the Geek Squad in Best Buy. It is not cheap for them to fix it, but it is worth it.
