About my Silky Terrier?

Well,,

What is the best brand food for a 5 month old silky terrier? because when i first got him, the vet suggested us Eukanuba and i heard from LOTS of people that that brand consists of more grain or sumthing and my puppy doesn't even eat it like his own food! and that brand was the most expensive brand so we kind of trusted it.. and now i kinda feel like it didn't worth paying that much!!

When is the best time to neuter? like the perfect time :P i know there may not be the PERFECT time but i don't want him to get it on the wrong time that he might get sick..

and for the last (srry :P)

I heard these kind of breeds need to cut their fur completely so when they grow back, it's much smoother.. both of my friends dog (one maltese and the other yorkshire terrier) got their fur literally SHAVED because their vet suggested to.. but my vet never told me about it.. and my friend's dog's fur really did seem to grow nicer!! :)

Thank you so much :D

OK, for food I'd recommend Innova (has some grains but very few compared to meat and veggies), Blue Buffalo (same as Innova) or EVO (Made by the Innova company but has NO grains. Another alternative is raw feeding which is a pretty cheap way to feed but is what your dog would eat in the wild (www.rawmeatybones.com).

OK, 6 months old is the youngest age most vets will neuter a dog, it's also the best age for growth because the hormones move to the muscles instead of the testicles.

I've got a Maltese X Australian Silky Terrier and when I got him he had disgusting fur but I shaved it off when I first got him and it's grown back REALLY nice and much smoother, also I think it's quite a bit lighter.

ADD: Please, don't feed your dog Science Diet. It's the WORST dog food out there, Pedigree has more meat in it then Science Diet. Science Diet is ALL corn!

    I don't know about the fur--as I have a chihuahua!

I had my little guy neutered at 5 months.

Most people I know had it done around 5 or 6 months.

I called the SPCA and bought a neuter 'voucher' and my vet did the surgery for half price. might be worth checking into!

There are all kinds of puppy food brands, at all kinds of prices.

many have fillers, which dogs don't need. I am not knowledgable enough to say which brands.

i know 2 brands that are considered the best are Wellness/Solid Gold and old Mother Hubbard.

Both are sometimes hard to come by and must be ordered on-line.

As for market brands, I really couldn't tell you as mine eats Science Diet (from the vet) for his protein allergy.

Good Luck with your little terrier!

You dont need to shave the fur, I have never heard any one say that, just make sure you brush it every day or every other day. We feed our silky royal canin but it is quite expensive, but any food should do really, we just give her it because she likes it and it used to it, sometimes we give her mince so she doesnt get bored of it. A vet will have better information on neutering your puppy.

ok eukanuba is an expensive brand of dog food but it is very good and HEALTHY, i have a pekingese that's two years old and that's the only brand of food i buy for her, one time i tried switching her food and it made her sick and she was vomiting everywhere. Your vet recommended it for a reason, if your puppy doesn't like it you can go to a pet store, like petsmart and they sell this gravy like substance you can put some of that in the food and it gives it good flavor.

you can neuter your dog now, its better now than later.

don't shave your dog's hair off, just comb it out or use a deshedding comb/tool, that works wonders!
