Rest in peace, Mr Harry Patch?
Harry Patch, the last surviving soldier of World War One passed away earlier. I want to thank him for his outstanding service. He will always be remembered in the UK as a national hero.
I know there are a few other questions like this, but he truly deserves all the merit he receives. Rest in peace.

Remarkable to think he survived the trenches & still lived such a long life. My granddad served in WW1 but sadly died at the age of 72. The men & women who served in WW1 will never be forgotten neither will all those who have died since.

Well Done Sir,
I was just thinking how two faced the majority of folk on here are.
This sad news comes through and there is hardly a stir in the Yahoo community-
- yet a suspected child molester and bankrupt clogs up the media for many days.
You are totally right - he will be remembered by people appreciative of his sacrifice.
His family permitting it might be a chance for this Country to do the right thing and provide a Military type funeral attended by the Politicians whose gravy train he unwittingly provided.

he was a great man and unlike Christian Mortensen his friends meant more to him than the titles the deaths of his friends brought him, when the worlds oldest man Henry Allingham died a week earlier Harry Patch said he lost a friend, it must be sad for Britain losing two of their best men in only a week.

Wouldn't it be fitting to be saying Lord Harry Patch
I hardly want to mention this in the same breath , the Thatcher offspring is a LORD. What are we thinking about?

Let's also remember the many thousands who never got the chance to live to 25 years, let alone to over 100.
My grandfather alone lost four brothers and two brothers in law.
Thank them all.

RIP Harry Patch, we owe you and your comrades, both fallen and surviving, a very great debt.

Not really; he was just a salesman and had very little to do with any of Apple's real inner workings. He was certainly a brilliant and successful man, but nobody I care for much. May he rest in peace, however.
