Grass and most other plants are green because they contain a pigment

known as chlorophyll. The chlorophyll is used in the process of

photosynthesis where a plant produces sugar in the presence of

sunlight. In fact the word 'photosynthesis' means literally to

synthesize or 'make' from light (photo). There are, of course some

plants which do not contain chlorophyll, and these generally get their

nutrition (food) by other means. Some examples are the fungi which

decompose dead, and sometimes living, tissue, for their food.

You will find that a green plant needs light to make food. If the

source of light is cut off, the plant dies. Mushrooms, which are

fungi, do not require light to make food (they decompose matter

as I mentioned above) and you can find mushrooms growing in almost

    total darkness.

    hope this helps :)

For practicality's sake. Things are what they are. If you are a creationist, I suppose God created the grass that way. If you are not, I suppose it happened arbitrarily when our world formed and we over time have come to associate the color of green with nature. Scientifically speaking, the chlorophyll (a pigment in plants) makes it green, but then you may ask why the chlorophyll is green too. It just continues. It's up for you to decide how to interpret it.

Because It Reflects Green Light But Absorbs All The Other Colours In The Rainbow/Spectrum

Grass produces a pigment called chlorophyll. Chlorophyll assorbs high energy blue light and reflects green light,

This is why the grass is green.

The grass, as in almost all green plants, has something in their cells called "chlorophyll". This causes the plants to have a green appearence.

it's cause the grass is filled with chlorophyll like all other plants. it's green and it's there for photosynthesis. if you don't understand, go read a book. no offense.

chlorophyll. (I'll try and make this simple so I don't end up writing a really long answer) chlorophyll is the stuff in plants that allows them to make food for themselves but absorbing the energy in sunlight. chlorophyll itself is best at absorbing light that is red...but it sucks are absorbing green light. (as you you, sunlight is white, and white light is all the colors in the rainbow combined). Because chlorophyll sucks at absorbing green light, it relects the green light. When you see a green plant, its actually because the chlorophyll is reflecting the green light to your eyes.

Chlorophyll in the grass's chloroplasts. If you really want to know, why don't you go to school and learn about it in 5th grade science.

You're not in Kentucky where the grass is blue.

Because green is God's favorite color. or it could be because of all the chlorophyll
