Renault banned from next GP?

Read the story at f1-live.com

Basically they are pissed they let Alanso leave with a lose wheel. After the Surtee and Massa accidents it is understandable. What are the odds that the ban sticks?

Update:

Penalize the crew member who put the tire on? Did you not watch the race? He clearly knew something was very wrong and didn't want the car released!

The whole point of having a race in Valencia in the first place is to maximise the marketing potential of Alonso in Spain. Him being banned from his own cash-cow race won't make Bernie happy, or the sponsors. I see another "fine and suspended race ban" appeal result...OR, if the FIA get creative, they may find themselves "unable to schedule the appeal during the summer break", with Renault being allowed to compete until the appeal is heard - with the most likely appeal date being the Monday after the Valencia GP, and the punishment standing for the NEXT race...

I think that it is a knee jerk reaction to ban the whole team. I think that it is the person who was on the front right who should have some sort of penalty imposed on him.

For several reasons a) it was such a simple mistake to make and b) I think that he should have told one of the other pit crew so Alonso could have been aware of it.

Or even just fine Renault for the mistake. If Mclaren can be spared a suspension for the mistake they made in Australia this year with Hamilton in the end being disqualified then I think that Renault should be spared as well. After all this has happened in the past and I doubt teams then where suspened.

It is understandable after the two accidents mentioned above with Massa and the unfortune lost of Surtee. Hence why I see this as a knee jerk reaction.

Well, it's not surprising that they've incurred this penalty in light of recent events. If Renault appeal, I think the ban will still stick. There was clearly a problem right away after the pit stop. It was dangerous to everyone and I don't think Renault will be let off the hook easily

I don't think they should be suspended - just give them a warning that they will be banned if something similar happens again and a fine. Also, F1 only has 20 cars we don't want to lose 2 more. However, it could be good if the ban sticks as Renault are banned, not their drivers, so perhaps Alonso could take Massa's place at Ferrari if he is still unfit to race.

They are appealing, i do think it's good to give a punishment, after all it was dangerous and soon after Surtees, but banning them i think is harsh, it wasn't Alonso's fault, and Piquet has nothing to do with it, so i think they should be able to race but any points they get shouldn't be counted for the team, but that's just what i think, that might be letting them off lightly though.

The stewards might change their minds, no one wants to miss a race in their home country, might appeal more than once, will be interesting in what happens, already Mass might not race so it wouldn't be good for the sport if 3 people are not racing.
