How can I remove Skype from my computer?

I installed skype 4.0 to talk to my best friend, who lives three hours away. I didn't want it for any other purpose. The first time I tried it, it wouldn't work, and I never got around to using it again....and I've never wanted to use it. My brother got sorta mad when he saw the icon on my desktop, but I explained then said that I can't get it to work anyway, and he said "good" and was fine...but he's really nice so I think he just thinks I'm too young............and I've heard about viruses and hackers coming from Skype, and lately my computer has been really really slow.

I tried to remove it by going to "start", "Control Panel", "Programs", and "Uninstall a Program"...I clicked on skype and then clicked "uninstall", and a window that says "preparing to remove" stays there for about 20 seconds. But then a window from one of my security programs says "An unidentified program wants access to your computer" with the options "Cancel-I don't know where this program is from and I've never used it before" or "Allow-I know where this program is from and I've used it before"

When I clicked "details", it says this:

Unidentified Publisher

Skype 4.0.227

Update

What do I do?!

Update:

just so you know, this is a BRAND-NEW computer. I just got it at the end of june. There's hardly any programs on it, just a bunch of windows and dell crap, skype, Mario Paint Composer, and a Roxio thing that I'm gonna remove cuz I have no idea what it is. ...if you know what that is, tell me...

Skype in and of itself is not a virus. There's no virus in the Skype program. "Unidentified Publisher" just means that Windows does not know the program...which isn't surprising in the least and not something you should worry about. I have dozens of programs like that. However, have you -ever- talked to someone who wasn't your friend? Viruses can be transmitted through skype.

"Allow" it. There's nothing to worry about from the Skype program itself.

As far as your computer being slow...that's very rarely caused by viruses. It's more likely you have a bunch of crap running in the background that saps system resources. Go to start -> Msconfig and disable everything you don't need in "services" (make sure you "Hide all microsoft services) and "startup".

Then, go to start -> programs -> Accessories -> system tools -> disk defragmentor. Defrag your harddrive. You may have to do it multiple times. Lastly, run ccleaner

    http://www.ccleaner.com/

And, of course, make sure that you have a few gigs of free space on your computer at least.

EDIT: Roxio is a program that lets you burn files (music, etc) to CDs.

Go to Start then Run. Now type in msconfig, Open the Startup Tab. Scroll down the list and un-check anything relating to Skype. Now click apply, click OK. Restart your PC. When your computer boots you will see a new pop-up window - check, do not show again.

Now try Control Panel, Add/Remove, Skype

After you remove it you should download, update and run Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware and Ccleaner.

    Do one thing..

    download older version of Skype

    and install it ..

after installing .. try uninstalling it by control panel..

Or update it or install newer version

after installation .. try to uninstall..

All you have to do is .. overwrite..

its very simple sellect allow because your program to remove is trying to access and remove it from your registry. this is because your anti virus program is protecting your computer. so you are safe by selecting allow.
