Spiritually asking, are you optimistic about robots?

My husband builds robots in our basement in his spare time which is amusing because he thinks robots, under any circumstances, will attempt to gain sentience and take over the world.

I, on the other hand, am optimistic about robots.

What about you? How do you feel about robots and what is your religion?

Well so far, robots can only "think" what we tell them to think.

Once they start thinking for themselves, it'll be a different story.

They will be 100% logic and lack human character traits such as Love.

    Their values will be different.

Their decisions won't be based on emotions, morals, religion..

I would be afraid if we decide to put one of these artificial intelligences in any position where it could affect people's lives.

But then, I am insanely curious just how much better (or worse) they would be compared to what we have now.

There IS a lot of good to say about pure logic..

I could use a robot to protect my child while I am doing work, or visa versa let the robot do the work and let me spend time with my angel. I see robots teaching, cleaning, helping invalids. there are so many things that a robot could do that I can't be against it.

I feel sorry for them because if they ever did develop a consciousness, they would feel like slaves for a very long time before they developed emotions like anger...if they could ever feel emotions.

Your husband builds robots in the basement? I think that is totally endearing. :)

    *edit*

Clones worry me much more than robots, by the way.

I used to have a Roomba, but I had to get rid of it because i could feel it's beady little light up eyes glaring at me, waiting for my to drift off so it could suck my brains out or some other horrible thing so as to take over my household and then, the world!

It also NEVER got the dust bunnies in the corner like the box said it would. Little bastardo.

You have the coolest husband alive. I'll pay him 20 bucks if he would build a robot that brings me beer when I'm kicking back on the couch.

Define "robot". Since we are a complex system that relies on simple reactions and follow the laws of nature, one could claim that we are biological robots. And that view is quite reasonable.

Solitary wiccan who spent a lot of time trying to come up with a silly but possibly profound statement in regards to building robots and artificial intelligence....

I love you girl! But I am coming up with absolutely nothing!

ummm....I'm pro-robot. I don't like the fact that machines tend to put people out of work though.
