How many people have traveled into space?

With the present shuttle flight to ISS number crossed to 500. Cassidy becomes the 500th man into space.

The criteria for determining who has achieved human spaceflight vary. The Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) defines spaceflight as any flight over 100 kilometres (62 miles). a definition recognized by every country.

Given below are two lists of space travellers.

NB: Recently I saw BBC's documentary 'James May at the edge of space'. In that, James May (Top Gear fame) travels to the edge of space in a Lockheed U2. Because of the high operating altitude the pilot must wear the equivalent of a space suit. The original Apollo space suit was borrowed from the space suits used by the U2 pilots.

If you were to account that in these flights the pilots travel beyond Earth's atmosphere into space, the list would need to account for all the pilots who have flown or travelled by U2.

A little over 500. I seem to recall the 500th person in space happened a few months ago.
