The View From On Top of My Desk Looks Pretty Bleak

Apple-cores

were sitting on my desk

my midnight snack from last night, now shriveled and brown

and they said, I'd rather be dead than old and cold sitting here like this, useless

so i threw them away.

Some people said it was wrong so they made posters and yelled up at my window and they wrote a letter to the news.

and the news made a huge production of it all. Three rings, top hat, lions and tiger, the whole deal.

But everyone knows news people have no souls, so i didn't care.

Then the apple-cores

came back from beyond on a white cloud and asked what all the fuss was about, but nobody said a word.

Not a word.
