He must go purchase one, and best a genuine Honda cap or after market that states it is OEM specs. Cars today work with specific pressures which the computer reads. Not having the proper cap messes things up. Also, the fuel will evaporate and waste a lot. It will also not pass an emissions test, as it causes fuel to not burn completely, as everything is fine tuned to work at as a system.
The dealer should have them in stock, and not expensive. Some aftermarket caps, might not work the same. Honda is a great car, but certain items are best using genuine parts. Good luck

both are dual cam vtec for the start, if the prelude is automatic it is not that good there auto-stick is notorious for problems. civic si less hp about 160 for a 1.6 where as the prelude is about 190 for a 2.2 i think personally the prelude is nice but it is bulky. put the h22 or a b18c in the civic and you have a way nicer car. prelude is better for rarity. civic is better for practicality. depends how you define better!!. performance the h22 is stronger yet the civic is lighter so there about the same on the 1/4 mile.

No problem, but since the fuel tank is not pressurized without a cap it may cause a check engine light to turn on.
Get one at Honda, you want your cap to be original.

Yes, This sux. Go to AutoZone their like $8. You need it badly! Without it you're gas will evaporate really quickly. if you fill it up and let it sit for a week i Guarantee that a quarter tank of gas will evaporate that quickly. not only that but moisture and contaminate can get in and screw fuel system and engine up.
GET ONE!

it will most likely just trigger a check engine light i know on my RSX i will get a check engine light saying low fuel pressure, asides from debris getting into the gas, which in all honesty shouldnt happen unless its rusted, there shouldnt be anything wrong happening, but i would still replace it for peace of mind

Your best bet is the junk yard. I know some people who go there and pay the $2 entrance fee and then they put the small car part in their pocket without paying and leave with it. I'm not suggesting you do this though.

Gas caps are pointless to hassle over. Your chances of contaminants and explosions are the same. Go to a salvage yard and pick one up for a few bucks...
Or you could "find" one next time you're at the gas station. feel me?
(I condone gas-cap theft. eat it answer community)

yes it will let contaminants in so get a replacement as soon as possible you may also get spillage on the paint if you go round corners or bumps
you can get universal ones quite cheap or pick one up at a scrap yard
