How do i use my ps3's blue ray player to watch movies on my laptop using an HDMI connection?

The HDMI port on your laptop is to watch your laptop on a TV, it's not to watch external Blu-ray players on your laptop. In other words, it's for output, not for input; a one way street.

Two options for you, you can purchase a USB Blu-ray drive, or you can purchase a video capture device. The video capture device will allow you to connect your PS3, but you will only get video in SD resolution. Amazon has an HP laptop Blu-ray drive for under $70, or you could look for a USB version.

It is my understanding that the HDMI port on your laptop (irrespective of brand) is only an HDMI out port..not an HDMI In port hence you would not be able to use that to connect your PS3 to your laptop screen.

Having said that the best way to check is to connect your PS3 thru the HDMI cable to the HDMI port of your laptop , then go the display properties/settings and check if you have an option to detect a new input.My guess would be ..it's not available.

Best way is to use a USB TV tuner card which would allow you to connect the PS3 using your normal cable ..but i guess that defeats the purpose of Hi Def then ;-)
