wireless service says it's connected, but can't find server at Yahoo?
I am visiting friends who don't have DSL, and just have a cell phone, no land line (so no modem). OK, I connect to an unsecured wireless network. It says connected at 18.0 MBS, connection strength Good.
BUT then it can't find the server on Yahoo or Google or actually get working on the internet. WHY?
BTW, when I go across the street to the Coffee Shop that has
the same unsecured wireless network, it works fine. Same signal strength, same speed, etc. WTF?

It's very possible that while the first wireless network is unsecured, meaning that the data being transmitted is not encrypted, but it is filtered, which means that you can see it, but you cannot use the network, because your MAC ID is not on the filter list in the router.
Sorry

I also find it weird that it says 18 mbps and you have a good connection. a standard high speed internet connection runs at 56 mpbs. anyways it's more than likely an ip conflict. if you were to use a proxy you can get around it.

Possibly Google & Yahoo blocked your IP, or you have parental controls on your PC for some reason.. I cant think today :p
