Why do politicians who preach family values usually cheat?

I think when some politicians who condemn someone for cheating usually have a case of "It won't happen to me"-itis. The ones who have cheated in the past are engaging in rank hypocrisy. I think some are also looking to score religious values points with their voters by mouthing the right phrases.

The babbster--it was John Ensign who was having an affair with a friend's wife. Mark Sanford ran off to Argentina; as far as we know, his "soul mate" isn't married.

And this is why I want to sock people who babble about the sanctity of marriage when it comes to keeping same-sex couples out but don't say anything when a politician cheats on his wife.

I don't know why people do anything. I feel so bad for the lady that called 911 about a possible break in. Never even mentioned race and people started threatening her and her family calling her a racist. These are people who are suppose to be so understanding and open minded. They are not the liberals I grew up with. These people are just plain hateful That is not a normal democrat.Bring back the hippies!

Newt Gingrich. Mark Sanford. Mike Ensign. Larry Craig. Dick Armey. Rush Limbaugh. And I'll throw in John Edwards too, just to show that I'm not biased on this issue. And religious folk wonder why America has rejected them.

It was more than a sex scandal, he was making amateur porn. Then of course, Sanford who was banging his best friends' wife while defending the Defense of Marriage Act, and others. It's a disgusting display, really.

it is kind of like the Democrats that preach that paying taxes is your duty and is patriotic but then they turn out to be tax cheats and they don't pay the taxes that they owe

cheating on a spouse is a personal thing , not paying the taxes that are owed is cheating the American people

Most don't, however the news likes reporting the ones who do because its more scandalous than reporting "someone who said free love for all cheated on his co-habitating life partner"

Not all of them do. But when one does, it's a major news story, since they often run on a platform of family values. Not all politicians are hypocrites - though a lot of them are.

For the same reason, I guess, that liberals I have known preach race equality and then discriminate against minorities themselves.

I’m thinking the trick here is that ALL politicians cheat, but only the ones with conservatives values take any heat for it.
