Who is the best pitcher to never win the Cy Young award?

Current pitchers only please. Don't answer Cy Young.

Go based on their entire career too, not just right now.

After Cy youthful, I might desire to flow with Nolan. a stable argument is made that for the period of his suited years some had greater advantageous seasons, yet that i no longer the question. he's the suited pitcher in no thank you to win a CYA. yet for argument's sake: 1977 CYA went to Sparky Lyle with Palmer ending 2nd and Nolan third. Sparky Lyle pitched 139 innings and recorded 26 saves. He went 13-5 with a 2.17 era at the same time as dealing with a million/2 as many batters as Nolan or Palmer. Palmer went 20-11 with a 2.ninety one era at the same time as Nolan went 19-sixteen with a 2.seventy seven era. He had 22 complete video games, 4 shutouts (greater advantageous than palmer) and a hundred and fifty greater ok's than palmer. additionally, he started 37 video games and have been given a determination in ALL 37 video games. it extremely is an wonderful stat!

One that comes to mind is Curt Schilling. He was 216-146 in his career with a 3.46 ERA and 3,116 strikeouts. Seasons he could've won it but never did were 2001, 2002, and 2004.

    2001: 22-6 with a 2.98 ERA and 293 K's (Lost to Randy Johnson)

    2002: 23-7 with a 3.23 ERA and 316 K's (Lost to Randy Johnson)

    2004: 21-6 with a 3.26 ERA and 203 K's (Lost to Johan Santana)

Another one besides Roy Oswalt that could've won a Cy Young is Josh Beckett. He is 101-66 in his career with a 3.74 ERA and 1258 K's. The year he had the best chance to win it is 2007.

    2007: 20-7 with a 3.27 ERA and 194 K's (Lost to C.C. Sabathia)

Dang I was going to say Cy Young. He's not current, but Juan Marichal never won a Cy Young and he's in the Hall of Fame. Of current players, I'm pretty sure Roy Halladay hasn't won a Cy Young yet and he's been one of the best pitchers in the league for the last 5 or 6 years.

Roy Halladay won in 2003... Currently, i'd have to say that Josh Beckett is the best to have not won a Cy Young award (even though he definitely should've won over C.C. Sabathia in 2007).

John Smoltz won the Cy Young award...I would have to say it would be Jose Rijo he was awsome and Danny Jackson had one great year for the Reds too....or maybe Anothey Young for the Mets

In the past, Chien-Ming Wang (obviously with his current status, not now). I think the main reason he didn't win was because he wasn't such a strikeout pitcher, but I thought he could've won it over CC Sabathia in 2007.

I would of said Cy Young. Andy Pettitte.

Curt Schilling. 20-game winner 3 times in his career. 3.46 career ERA 216 games won, and 3116 career strikeouts. In his prime, he was overshadowed by other dominant pitchers like Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, and Roger Clemens. But he did win 3 World Series and was World Series co-MVP with Arizona in 2001.
