Usually salt and pepper are the best spice for meats. But I learnt a trick from the chef Jamie Oliver. Finely chop up some rosemary or thyme (depends on what you like actually) and season the steak with the leaves. It gives a nice aroma and makes it taste better too.

Filet? Close to nothing. The flavor of that cut of meat is phenomenal, and you don't want to do much to add flavor to it. Fresh ground black pepper is always good, a little pinch of Kosher or Sea Salt would be good, and maybe a light steak seasoning. Nothing heavy on a filet.

These are either or, not all together and don't mix and match.....I used to till I figured it all out.

    salt and pepper

lawreys seasoned salt and pepper - this is what I chose and thats it!!!

    Garlic salt and pepper

a few splashes of westershile sauce and pepper

a good montery steak seasoning, just a few sprinkles, like a pinch.

like I said, I used to try it all, marinading my steak in tons of diffenet things, tons of spices....but the best bet is to keep it simple.

Source(s): onion salt, onion powder, grilled onions, teryaki sauce, garlic, garlic salt, garlic powder, steak seasoning, lots of it, pepper seasoned salt, salted salt, lemmon pepper, lemon salt.....bla, bla, bla.......

Salt and pepper and nothing else. Filet has great flavor and you don't want to cover it up.

Pretty much ANY steak should only have salt and pepper on it for that matter.

Peter Luger steak sauce or Kikkoman's teriyaki (with sesame)

    Either one is great
