How hard should it be to mantain a high GPA in college?

I'm smart but I'm not a genius. How hard should it be to mantain a high GPA (3.6 - 4.0) in the first year of community college?

It's not that difficult to do well in college...it's not that difficult to do badly either. Here's my advice:

1.) ALWAYS go to class. You gain the most just from being there. It keeps you on your toes with assignments, tests, and the like.

2.) In class, participate, ask questions, and volunteer answers. Sit in or near the front if you can. Make sure the professor knows you're attentive and eager to learn. Make use of his/her office hours if you ever have questions about an exam/assignment/etc. Don't be a pest, but do make youself noticed enough that he learns your name. When grading time comes around and you're pulling an 88/89% in the class, he'll feel a lot more inclined to round the grade up for someone he knows, who has been in class each day working hard, as opposed to the random stranger who sat silently in the back of the room, whose name he doesn't know.

3.) Be detail-oriented. Understand the Who, What, When, Where, and Why of every item and concept with which you should be familiar. Better to write too much than not enough. Do a little work for each class, each day. If you have a test in two weeks, start studying NOW; a term paper due in two months, get your research started. Stay on top of things, and don't let yourself get overwhelmed.

    You should do fine!

In my first year of community college I ended up with a 3.2 GPA without really trying at all. Seriously, I didn't study but maybe once or twice. I got basically all B's, 2 A's, and 1 C. This was at the top community college in my state.

It's not that hard as long as you take relatively easy classes (no Physics or Calculus or British Lit) and you just try. You need to get almost all A's, but you can get a few B's. I would have had a much higher GPA had I not gotten that one C, so try not to get any C's whatsoever.

Oh, and the other answer was wrong on so many levels. Grad schools don't need to accept credits. All you need is a degree from an accredited college.

It all will depend on which prime college and core college you attended. You'll most likely be doing extra studying and not more "busywork", despite the fact that. Yes, do your homework at all times. It can best aid. You must take AP categories for those who believe they are going to spice up your GPA. Considering you will have saved up well grades in core college, I recommend that you simply do take APs. For now, do not fear approximately which schools you desire to wait. Just recognition on prime college, and do not forget to get a few extracurriculars and keep a social lifestyles so that you could experience your self.

It's not easy but its not impossibly difficult either. Some classes will be more difficult than others. Just because it's community college doesn't mean its a breeze. You will do fine if you apply yourself and seek help when you need it.

Edit: There are very few geniuses around. Some are just more prepared than others. College whether a university or community will have you doubting your intelligence but just work at it.

Depending on your major (bio engineering is more difficult than history, for example), it should be pretty doable, especially if your class is graded on a curve.

The best piece of advice, other than studying your *** before midterms/finals, is to attend every class in the front row, ask questions, and go to office hours with questions about things you don't understand. Do this and a 4.0 is quite possible.

  • why do you want to get good grades if you're already in community college? should've thought about that shi't in high school. oh and dont think about going to a grad school later in life either...they dont accept credits from community colleges XD
