Organizing files in Vista?

On my XP, the files in my folders were organized by the date they were created or saved to my computer. This method of sorting was called "modified" by the computer.

On Vista,Theres about 400 different ways files can be sorted, but none is called modified and if there is an equivalent I haven't found it.All my files in all my folders are alphabetized and its driving me crazy! I even tried sorting them manually (drag and drop) and it was reset the next time I turned on my computer!

Even my desktop is in some screwed up order, and that resets if I organized it manually too! Help is desperately needed.

Update:

For the record I hate Macs even more. I've heard all the arguments and I disagree, I Used one almost exclusively for graphic arts for two years, and I still hated it.

I can't complain too much. I don't know much about hardware, but this "Latitude E6400" can even run Crysis and I got it as a present. Just wish Microsoft didn't suck.

To view your computer files in a folder by the date they were last modified, open a folder and on the View menu click Details. On the top of the column, click Date Modified.

The way explorer behaves (or doesn't) in Vista is for me the biggest gripe and like you I can't abide it; not only can't you order things the way you want, but explorer doesn't remember the changes you made earlier.

Vista is the reason I switched to Mac. Did you know that because Vista sucks so much, Microsoft is releasing a replacement called Seven, or something like that, and it's going to be free. Have fun with that, PC users!
