32-bit or 64-bit laptop?

well to cut a long story short i am in the market for a new laptop and ram is important to me as i will be runnin quite demanding programs simultaneously so will need at least 4GB but i was thinking of getting a 64-bit machine and opting for a 8GB machine.

will there be any problems with this regarding software compatibility? does every piece of software have a 64-bit counterpart? what other issues will i encounter?

thank you in advance for you responses

64-bit has a built in 32-bit emulator (to put it simply) and as such 32-bit software will run on a 64-bit OS.

While there are 64-bit software variants they only benefit from slightly better performance.

There are no longer any issues with 64-bit as Driver support is now top notch.

Not many software manufacturers support 64-Bit processors. I would go with the 32-Bit operating system if possible. I've only known 1/4 of the programs out there go for 64-Bit.

However there are some 32-Bits that do work with some stability issues but others pull up an error that says the 32-Bit program is not compatible with the 64-Bit operating system.

My tips to you is that if your going to buy a brand new laptop most laptop now are 64-bit what make it a 32-bit is the processor. As application is concerned a 32 bit application runs on a 64-bit computer the only difference is the driver if you are going to buy a 64 bit computer make sure that your processor is 64 bit that is where it is measured and also a 64 bit processor can run a 32 bit operating system but not as fast as it could run for it could not utilize the power of the processor. Make sure that there is a 64 bit driver for all your hardware if you want a 64 bit processor and i am almost certain that every application that is not a driver will run on your computer as long as a proper driver on the hardware it will use is 64 bit. Ask your retailer or computer store if the laptop consist the nessesary driver or you have to download it yourself. Also note that a dual core or more processor is certainly 64 bit to utilize its power install a 64 bit operating system.

64 bit wil run faster with the programs that are gesigned for it, but there is hardly any that are. There are many problems and driver issues with it right now so go with the 32 and install 64 later.

    Go for 32-bit.

While 64-bit allows for more RAM, there are many software compatibility issues, driver compatibility issues, and stability issues.
