Why am I having shoulder pain after hand surgery?

I had de Quervain's release surgery done on my right hand. The same day my stitches came out and the sling came off, I started noticing discomfort in my right shoulder. By that night I was in pain. It is like a constant knot in my shoulder that will not go away. I am having trouble with range of motion in my arm with out pain. I went and spent money on a massage therapist for her to tell me that it was more than just a tension knot, and she would not be able to help me. The doctor will not address the issue, because the issue with my hand is workman's comp, and workman's comp still has not responded on weather they will let him address my shoulder. In the mean time I am in non stop pain, and can't find any reasons to why.

Someone please help!!!! Linking references would be great as well.

Thank you

A complicated case. I hope that you have a lawyer working for you that specializes in workman's compensation cases as this will help you dramatically. You don't state what happened at work which might have contributed to the shoulder problem. Having just undergone a procedure on the thumb maybe the key to this problem. The nerve, median, that controls the thumb may have been injured in the original problem at work. It is not uncommon to have shoulder pain or issues in the shoulder as a result of this. But without knowing what happened it is hard to know as the tendons involved with de Quervain's are on the top of the hand while the median nerve is on the bottom. So if you don't have a lawyer see one and they might be able to force the covering company to have you see a shoulder specialist. Then again I cannot understand why the hand surgeon will not look at the shoulder as it could possibly be from what went on in the hand procedure.

it may be that the surgery has not cured the condition or it is taking longer to heal than normal it also seems odd that the stitch's were removed on the same day of surgery and was not left in an elevated position
