This may be a dumb question, but what is a report monkey?

Report monkeys are members of this site who frequently report any questions or answers that don't agree with the monkey's personal opinions or beliefs. Their goal is to have your account deleted.

As far as I can tell, it is a pejorative and slightly paranoid term used to describe some invisible participant on Yahoo Answers whose main goal is not to answer any ones questions, but to act as a sheriff who scans questions to see if they violate the community guidelines.

In other words, people who continually and willfully and knowingly post things that they know violate the guidelines react by calling these people who report their violations as "report monkeys".

That way they can make themselves feel better about breaking the rules because "the rules are stupid anyway" and people should be free to post whatever they want without other people bringing it to the attention of the Yahoo Answers moderators.

I say "slightly paranoid " because many people who use this term "assume" that someone from a different belief system in out to "censor" them when they have no way of knowing who reported them or why.

although some posts are genuinely offensive and need reporting,

People who report answers just to report them. Sometimes, if you have your Q&A available to them, they will go through and report all of your questions and answers.

Somebody who goes around and reports questions...

a person who reports questions and answers that they find offensive... it causes you to lose points when you're reported and if it continues your profile can be deleted, but you can start a new one

It can be anyone, Christian, atheist, Muslim, pastafarian, anyone who reports a valid question so that the account gets deleted.

People who report others for abuse even if the behavior/post wasn't abusive to begin with.

Trolls or maggots that report your question in order to delete your question/account.
