Well there was Hitler, who was supposedly trying to reform the Weimar Republic after a huge economic depression between WWI and WWII.

When Hitler took over Germany, he told all of the German citizens that he was going to ethnically cleanse Germany. Then he completely took over everything with the Nazi party, and twisted everything he had said around.
