Help! My computer is trying to send spam and I can't make it stop! I have updated Webroot anti virus?
The only way I can make it stop is by turning off the modem. How can I fix this? Any help is appreciated. I use Yahoo email, but its sending it through another server, can't tell which.

Sounds like you've been conscripted into a Spy-bot army.
As well as other free AV programs try running a rootkit scanner
or

Avira also makes a pretty good free AV and Comodo have a number of free security apps.
And get yourself a decent firewall that monitors traffic going out as well as in! Comodo's isn't at all bad though they've lumped it in with a free AV as well into a Security Suite which makes it a bit of a monster download. (70MB)

Yeah, these kinds of malwares can be a real "b*tch" to get a handle on. It could have been any numbed of types of malware that has gotten into your machine. It has set-up your computer as a slave in the army of "Bot-nets". Simply, it means that a network of underground computers have secretly installed malware into your computer that is taking commands from a "Boss" computer to send out all kinds of junk to different computers all over the world. Sooner or later your internet service provider is going to catch it and shut down your internet...
Unfortunately, the only 100% sure-fire way to make sure that you have gotten rid of the infection is to do a complete format and re-install your Windows. Sure, you can run many different kinds of scans from all sorts of companies but believe me, re-installing is the only sure way to stop this monster for good. I know it's extreme but I would really spend an hour or so reinstalling rather than take the chance and have my internet shut-down...
You may say... "no, my service provider wouldn't do that"... YES... they would, to protect their internet interests.... I know for a fact several different providers (mine included) that have done it to several individuals...
Be safe, wipe your hard drive clean and re-install your Windows...
GOOD LUCK !!!

Scan your computer in Safe Mode. If Webroot doesn't find the virus use Malwarebytes.
Download, install and update Malwarebytes. Then run a full scan in Safe Mode.

hate to say it but your computer has been turned into a bot.somehow you downloaded some malware that has taken control of your computer.you might try malwarebytes and superantispyware free versions.turn off your system restore and run scans with both.if you do not regain control of your pc then eventually your internet provider will terminate service until the issue is resolved.these kind of malware attacks are very hard to clean up.if it was me i would wipe the hard drive and reformat.
