Dry nail polish between coats, or not?

Every article I've ever read in a magazine says to let polish dry between coats when giving yourself a manicure or pedicure.

But when I get it done at the salon, they just put on the 2nd coat right after the 1st, and it still looks good.

Does it really matter? Does the acetone in the polish 'meld' the 2nd layer into the first, regardless of whether the 1st layer is dry?

That's a very good question that no one can answer for you exactly. I have been to several different nail salons and they all did it differently.

All these people are going to give you answers but do any of them know the truth? It depends on the nail polish, nail polish remover, and technique you are using that decides whether or not the polish is going to act the way it should. Some high-end nail polishes can be put on one coat after another - whereas some cheaper nail polishes it doesn't matter because the nail polish is cheap and will chip sooner anyways.

I personally let the first coat dry before applying the second coat. It's all what you have time for. I've noticed that when in nail salons sometimes the person doing my nails will do two coats really quick when he/she notices a customer waiting. Maybe they put the second coat on fast because they want to zip through you and get on to the next person?

You gotta wait or it will peel off. In the salon they do each coat really thin and they do one hand then the other and then they go back to other hand and so on, which leaves enuff time to let each thin coat dry, but there pros so they know exactly how to do it..

im a beauty therapist and i dont think there is any point to letting it dry in between coats... that would take forever!!!

just do base coat, 2 coats of colour, then top coat... u can then put on quick dry oil or spray ( i find the oils work better) and let it sit for about 30mins.. i find sitting on the computer amuses me when they are drying.. and they dont get bumped :)
