God, Marriage and Same Sex Couples?

So I am curious about something if god is such an important part of marriage and you believe same sex couples should not be able to marry as it violates the sanctity of the union because in the bible god disapproves of homosexuality.

Do you then believe a marriage between a heterosexual couple without the presence of god violates the same sanctity?

Because if the reason you don't like same sex marriage is because god isn't present and that is a crucial element of a marriage to you then surely you'd feel the same about ANY marriage without the god-factor?

I think that if same sex couples could get married. Some would try to get marriedat a church. Of course the priest would have to deny since it against what they believe they only believe in a marriage between a man and a woman. The same sex couple would probably be mad and could sue the church for not letting them get married so the church will

probably be closed down. as for heterosexual couples some dont believe in god and some just get civil married which has nothing to do with church. I dont think it violates the same sanctity

Those are all very valid and logical points but unfortunately logic is thrown out the window when dealing with prejudice filled people. Its just like when anti-same-sex marriage advocates say that procreation is the purpose of marriage but continue to allow infertile heterosexual couples to get married.

There are numerous contradictions to arguments against same-sex marriages but the reality is, as it stands on a federal level, the only criteria to get married is you must be a man and woman. There are no other limits to marriage and that is why it is a sexual orientation discrimination issue.

The Bible has been rewritten and processed so that people believe and hate LGBT. Some masterminds centuries ago knew people would believe anything the bible said and rewrote it bits and pieces.

The true bible, God's true word exist in our hearts.

But God doesn't hate same sex couples or anyone for that matter. Two hearts coming together to love one another, to take of each other. Love isn't just between opposites but strengthing the bonds of love and ties of friendship makes the heart God gave us even stronger. To find the truth, the answer we all search for, is somewhere. But not here.

As the hetero couple, Marriage is a "gamble"

Even if they don't believe in God, they are making a promise and to break the promise will be devastating.

I see what you're saying, but for those who oppose gay marriage for religious reasons, I think they're pro-heterosexual marriage, regardless of if it is atheist or not. To them, it's "going along with God's intended plan for men and women", versus gay marriage, which is, to them, an abomination.

Sure, in their perfect world, every marriage would be straight, and every marriage would have the presence of God, but I think most of them approve of Godless straight marriages.

I'm Catholic, and I honestly think that's a load of bull. The point of our religion is to live as Jesus, and God taught us to live and to live like him. Accepting all and loving everyone who wants or needs help, which is for some reason ignored as the main concept of the effing religion. It really makes me angry when so called "Saviors of Christ" or whatever stomp in and harass others. I mean, you're supposed to help people, not hurt them.

I think gay marriage is fine and that there is not a WORD in the Gospels regarding it. In fact nothing in the bible actually states anything regarding same sex marriage specifically.

It's a 2,000 year old book too, so I understand it shouldn't be taken literally.

Marriage isn't religious . . . marriage certificates aren't handed out by the church, they're handed out by the government. Married couples get governmental benefits.

A wedding can be performed in a church, and they can say they are under God, but in the end, it's a civil issue. =D

I think homosexuality being a sin is bullshit and sanctity of marriage is bullshit.

Even in a catholic church, two people who hate each other can still marry if they wish for whatever reason. Even though that's defined as a fine marriage, is it really okay?

Most people against gay marriage are just against being gay in general. So basically, they're bigots, and there's no way around it.

As a christian I don't have time to worry about this stuff. I have my own issues, and famliy to take care of.

  • Marriage isn't a religious institution anyway, it's a social institution. I don't want to be married in a church and I certainly don't need "god's" blessing to do it.
