HAIRRRR! roots of my hair?

When i keep my hair in a pony tale for example, for a day and a half or longer and then release my hair, the roots are really sore and it hurts to move and touch my hair...does anyone know why? and what i can do to make it not hurt? i kinda think its the oils coming from my roots and it has something to do with that but i dont know...

Depending on the direction I part my hair and how long its tied up I too usually feel this discomfort after and have to massage the area. I haven't had this lately though since I've stop tying so tightly or keeping my hair in a position for so long, the hair is being pulled in a certain direction for so long it can irritate the scalp.
