EDIT: Well, Gretz does have a house in California, he mainly stays in Phoenix. But he grew up in Brantford Ontario. There is still plenty of Canadians upset about August 9, 1988. But just because the holiday would be a Canadian one, it doesn't mean we can't celebrate it in the US. I would celebrate it.

Yes, I do believe Gretzky deserves a holiday. If not that, then at least a day named after him in Canada, because he's an icon up there (and in the US but 100x more)

Are you serious? Naming a holiday for a sports star? Where are your priorities? Grown men playing boys games already receive too much money and attention. We don't need to start putting them up on higher pedestals. He didn't cure cancer or invent cold fusion or anything one might deem to make him worthy of a semi-deity status.
