They're always assuming the worlds going to end. I myself am a survival of many apocalypse, and I'm sure you are too. We survived the 2000 apocalypse, the 2001 apocalypse, and if your old enough The apocalypse of my high school years when all nine of the planets were aliened. Nobody wanted to go to school that day, and none of us actually believed the world was ending. Want to read about a really good story about a predicted apocalypse? Look up the great disappointment on wiki.

It is the repeated telling of this type of rumour mongering that perpetuates this horrible scare story, the more people mention it the more it takes root and many are vulnerable and believe such nonsense. As someone else already said there are always this type of damaging nonsense doing the rounds, if it's not Nostradamus it's the bible, if it's not the bible it's some other prophet of doom. Even if it were true what good could come from people living in fear of the end? Enjoy everyday and be grateful, tomorrow is never guaranteed for any of us.

Everyone knows the world will end in 1999. It didn't? Crap!
We all know the world will end in 2000 because of Y2K...did didn't crap!
Everyone knows the world will end in 2008 because of the giant asteroid that was supposed to collide with the world...wait...crap!
Okay we're SURE on this one!
By the way, I go into detail on this mindset-
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aj2kG...
There are two key points involved in why this is done, and I'll address it from the standpoint of ANY religion or movement that emphasizes this notion-as well as show how it is used in every day life to take advantage of us.
1. "Limited Time Offer"
2. "The Final Stretch"
Remember, if the "end is nigh", then it would make sense that those who believe this would go out and try to save as many as they can-securing more members (subscribers) to their doctrine-false or otherwise.
Consider how often you hear of a big sale or event that is a "limited time offer", and how quickly people jump to it. In fact, watch ANY infomercial to see what I'm talking about.
The second point-is "The final stretch". When running a race, don't you put in the most effort in that final lap? This is what I mean by the "final stretch".
Now, this works in conjunction with "Limited Time Offer" to form the following message to believers or consumers-
"This (product/salvation) is a limited time offer and our (sale/world) won't last long! Tell your friends too, or they'll miss out-in fact-for every person you tell about our (product/salvation), you'll get (2 for the price of one/better seats in heaven)!"
Notice how it's the same formula-and how you've undoubtedly heard BOTH of them before?
And of course, a few weeks later, when the (sale/world) has yet to end, you find yourself still falling for it again-just in case they're right this time.

That's stupid. While it is possible for the world to end, it isn't any more likely to happen on that date than on any other date.
And I get the odd feeling that this part of some viral marketing campaign anyway, but I could be wrong.

The world is not going to end on 9.2.09 and it is not going to end in 2012.

I thought this was 12/20/2010?
Forget all those doomsday nuts, they haven't a clue. If by chance there is a slatewiper heading our way, nothing to do about it so why worry.

Everyone is freaking out? Who is this "everyone?"
Never heard of it. Heard of that 2012 malarky but that's about it.
