The fate of the earth, by the Greenhouse effect, is like an enormous scale. We have human causes of global warming, and natural causes of global warming. We can make a difference, but take a guess which side is weighing the world down?

There are ways to conserve and save, but how many people are going to stop using hairsprary, stop watching as much TV, and try to remember to turn off lights in unused rooms. It says there are enough supplies to feed the 10,000 or so people who live in the town of Ziketan, near Xinghai in Qinghai province, during the quarantine period.

Pneumonic plague is a virulent form of the disease that attacks the lungs. It can spread from person to person, or from animals to people. after reading this ground breaking news. i can see where this is going it's only a matter of time before this gets worse

The world is dying. The president isn't helping fast enough, to cut down on pollution a little. We don't care. Why? Why can't we stand up and try to save our world? It has givin us life and everything we need to live and mankind is killing it. Perhaps war between Mother nature and Mankind has begun. Rising temperatures due to global warming are threatening the entire Arctic ecosystem. Warmer temperatures means less pack ice - ice that polar bears depend on for hunting.

As their natural habitat gets warmer and decreases in size, the end result is fewer polar bears. For the polar bear, an irreplaceable symbol of the Arctic, climate change could lead to extinction. temperatures in the Arctic are rising at almost twice the rate as the rest of the world.

Since 1978, Arctic sea area ice has shrunk by more than 8% per decade.

Greenland's massive ice sheet holds enough melt water to raise sea level by approximately 23 feet (7 meters).Polar bears are the world's largest land based predators, but despite being on top of the food chain, they face threats from climate change they cannot overcome - unless we do something about it.

How can you help stop this before it's too late? Call on the US Government to protect the polar bear's habitat and slow the effects of global warming in america

The polar bear depends on sea ice to survive, hunting for seal until the ice disappears every summer. As climate warming reduces the extent of the pack ice, the polar bear loses precious hunting time, and the number of polar bears declines.

Polar bears are dying because sea ice is melting from global warming. Scientists think that 2/3 of all polar bears; including all in Alaska will be gone by 2050 due to losing 100% of their habitat. Global warming is causing the melting of sea ice and a decline in habitat and food, forcing the polar bears to swim farther distances than normal. The higher temperature is also causing the polar bears to overheat because of their layers of thick fur.

The US Department of Interior announced that the polar bear will be listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act on May 14, 2008, but the listing was filled with contradictions. for example, the administration signaled that it would take no steps under the Endangered Species Act to protect the polar bear from the massive oil and gas development currently planned in the very heart of its habitat. meaning thousands of polar bears will die drowning

The UN's top health official has opened a forum in Mexico on combating swine flu by saying that the spread of the virus worldwide is now unstoppable.

World Health Organization head Margaret Chan added that the holding of the meeting in Cancun showed confidence in Mexico, which has been hard hit.

The WHO says most H1N1 cases are mild, with many people recovering unaided.As the summit opened, the UK alone was projecting more than 100,000 new cases of H1N1 a day by the end of the summer.

While Mexico in the northern hemisphere has seen swine flu cases decreased, the peak of the flu season is approaching in South America and some areas have declared a public health emergency.

Paraguay has reported its first fatality, while in Central America El Salvador has also recorded its first swine flu death.

'Mild symptoms'

"As we see today, with well over 100 countries reporting cases, once a fully fit pandemic virus emerges, its further international spread is unstoppable," Dr Chan said in her opening remarks.

She stressed that the overwhelming majority of patients experienced mild symptoms and made a full recovery within a week, often in the absence of any form of medical treatment.

The exceptions, she said, were pregnant women and people with underlying health problems, who were at higher risk from complications from the virus and should be monitored if they fell ill.

"For a pandemic of moderate severity, this is one of our greatest challenges: helping people to understand when they do not need to worry, and when they do need to seek urgent care," Dr Chan said.

Turning to the summit venue, the WHO chief added: "Mexico is a safe, as well as a beautiful and warmly gracious, place to visit."

Leaders and experts from 50 countries are in Cancun for the two-day meeting to discuss strategies for combating the virus.

It has been more than two months since the initial alert over swine flu.

Since then, the H1N1 virus has entered more than 100 countries, infected more than 70,000 people and killed more than 300 worldwide.

Authorities across South America are becoming increasingly concerned as the peak flu season approaches.

Schools across Argentina have sent students home and pregnant women have been told they can take two weeks off work to avoid contracting the virus.

It is hoped the Cancun meeting will address many of the issues that might help slow the spread of swine flu but, our correspondent adds, many people are concerned that an effective vaccine has still not been developed
