The answer, HA, depends on the mission profile. I'm not a corpsman anymore -now I'm a Marine officer- but I always keep an aid bag stocked and ready in my vehicle/on my person.

If I'm going dismounted, I have to pack very carefully because weight and space are at a premium. I also operate on the assumption that I'll have MEDEVAC en route easily...so keeping the patient alive is my only concern.

In general, I'm going to have at least 5 TKs, some hemcon or quick clot, some crevattes, and some of those tails-included green bandages. I'll have a large bore needle for PTX, and a very basic IV kit...and I'll spread-load the fluids because I can't carry it all.

Mounted? Kit-and-kaboodle. Take it all - why not?

    NOT Cool Ranch Doritos.

(Yes, there's a story, it involves a grenade being dropped in the bit, a bit of shrapnal bouncing into a boot doc's arm...and his med bag being full of Cool Ranch Doritos when they went to patch him up.)
