1969 Dodge Dart Swinger, where's the "memory" wire?

I'm replacing the radio in a 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger 340. The current radio setup was installed in the late 70's. The red "accessory" wire is currently connected to the ignition circuit, which is fine. However, since the old radio did not require a "memory" wire, there is currently no yellow "memory" wire to connect the new radio to.

What circuit can I connect the memory wire to, where would the power source be located (would it be the car battery?, or do I need to install a separate battery?), and how exactly can I install this new connection?

there wasn't a factory memory wire on that car, the radio system only included one hot wire and one other hot wire for the park lights you,ll have to run one off the fuse panel for the newer model radio, what they might have did on that one originally was run one and over time it has lost power, you can run a new one from the fuse panel just make sure its fused and protected, and remains hot all the time even with the key off,i also own a 71 dart gt,good luck.

Since memory needs a constant 12 volt source of power and requires very little amperage you can probably splice into any wiring source that is live when the ignition is off. I suggest tapping into the dome light circuit, or checking the fuse box to find an open fuse slot which is powered up with the ignition off. Good luck.

your right they didnt have memory wires back then and all so the yellow memory wire can be hooked to the red wire also red and yellow hooked together to the ignition circuit wire that you have and it will work just as good but will not hold memory on the radio so you wil have to set it up everytime ....i do this alot when i have a car with no memory wire or cant find the wire ...it works for me go through about 10 cars a year ..cant keep the same car lol

a 1970`s radio did not have a memory wire as they were not electronic in those day,so what ever you are doing or putting in as radio then hook it up to constant power so look in the fuse block for power that is on all the time with the key turned off,if none is found then run a wire to the battery for the constant power you are looking for.

sorry this is not an answer.. but i couldnt help it

    WOW what a nice car!!!!!!

    that's my dream car!

    good luck with your radio!

you might try to find a schematic for the radio.. that should tell you what the input requirements are for the radio.. Did you google the model of the radio?

i suspect the radio's main power comes from a source that is not "always on" .. and that memory wire is to a source that is "always on" but much less current demand so you dont kill your battery. but this is just a guess.

Use the wire to the cigarette lighter it was always "hot" regardless of ignition switch position and it is a fused wire.

Did this on a friend's car, to the best of my knowledge he never had any trouble with it.

In my Challenger we tied (spliced) into the cigarette lighter wire , but add a 20 a fuse, so you do not fry it

You can't remember where to hook up the memory wire?
