Would it be unusual for a man (17-20) to work in a residential home helping old people? And what would the job actually involve?

Yes, of course.
They can become care assistants. I worked at a nursing home as a receptionist and lots of them were there. Some of the duties are not for the faint hearted having to toilet patients or residents and clear up after them when they have vomited.
They also give out meals and have to feed ones that are unable to feed themselves.
Washing and dressing them in the morning and undressing and preparing them for bed in the evenings
The nurses there were often men.
The pay is not very good. You would need to be a dedicated person and enjoy the work.
Don't go into it for an easy life.
You have to be 18 to apply for these jobs.

It's not unusual, but it will be very hard work. You will be responsible for feeding, bathing and even toileting the old folk..It's not a great paying job but does have huge rewards, if you are a caring person. I think that this would be one step away from being a male nurse, but without having to do all of the medical study.. Another thing to remember is that you might get to know many of the residents, very closely and you will have to deal with thier deaths at some point. I believe that it's a smashing job to have, but I, personally, could not deal with the losses that would inevitablly be part of the job..

Yes men can work in Retirement/ Nursing Homes ,you will have to be CRB checked and the hours are long and not well paid, this type of work is really a dedication,as if you expect to make a good living from it you'll find the wages are very poor, the benefits far out way this though and i worked as a carer in Nursing homes and in the community fro many years and my daughter is a senior carer at the moment and both of us love the work of course the hours are also unsociable weekend and holidays tend to go out of the window, you should get the appropriate training and i am sure if you can cope with the other aspects that the job brings then you should be ok.Good luck to you.

Hi Nate
Of course you can work in a care home. I guess you would be very popular with the old folk.
I had a placement in a care home for the elderly. You must be aware of each person's care plan then it is mostly helping them put the food in at one end then helping them to go and then clean up at the other end. All the while treating the person with dignity and respect.
It's all great fun and you get to hear some amazing stories about past times and past lives.
Go for it. Good luck and best wishes.

Im no FBI agent or shotgun expert yet ive examined different a lot with birdshot, protection rigidity 00, and slugs. All exams used a similar thickness - a 2inch demonstrate screen door with dry wall at the back of it. The birdshot AA 7 a million/2 2 3/4 shot in the path of the door yet infrequently scratched the drywall. The 00 blew in the path of the door and the d.wall. The slugs have been "abode made" and didnt do crap in any respect(no longer a actual sturdy assessment to actual slugs nevertheless you are able to truthfully think of what a actual slug could do.) i for my area use #4 dollar in basic terms using fact i think like it packs a extra perfect punch than any birdshot yet wont over penetrate to anothers abode

No, is the short answer. Not unusual.
You would assist in feeding, bathing, entertaining, taking to the toilet, liaising with residents' relatives and friends; seeing to their daily needs; putting them to bed; getting them up; moving them from one room to another.
