African-american, mexican-american, italian-american?
Do you add a country to yourself? I mean do you refer to yourself as african-american, mexican-american, italian-american, etc?
Why do you do that? If you were born on American soil, you are an American.
The only logical reason I can see using another country like that would be if you had dual citizenship.
Personally, I am American, my family comes from Pakistan, even though neither of my parents had been to Pakistani until they were in their teens. (I just want to point out that I am interested in Pakistani culture because that would be my heritage.) When they got their citizenship, they shed their old countries and became American. They've lived in many countries and have consistently told my brother and I that America is easily the greatest country to live in and be a part of.
Just your average boy - dude thats crazy, i didn't realize other countries had the same thing going on lol.
El Rey - You idiot, was that funny? Do you not understand the question? You need to have momma change your diaper and give you a bottle cranky boy!
Lei - Jamarican lol thats awesome but is there a reason you need people to know that you are from Jamaica? Big ups and REEEESPECK!

African Americans are the result of a supposed mix of culturs that Whites did not want to participate in (though they do) and this name is a default one. Its impossible to trace your roots at this point if you're African American because there was too much mixing going on all these years. America is a psuedo melting pot.

So, go tell the government to quit w/ their labeling system & these politicians, media & everyone to stop trying to divide everyone then, i mean even the election has been about race not just American, "Who are the Mexican-Americans in south Texas going to vote for" why not just say AMERICAN, you tell me? Whenever i say I'm Mexican, i'm simply identifying w/ my culture & that's it, obviously i live in America & represent that to the fullest! You may be Italian or American as you say, but you don't speak for them all, some kids i've known are always saying how great Italy is (they've never even been there) & have their flags everywhere, not one word about the USA comes out of their mouth....

No, my parents are both Mexican citizens, but I was born and raised in the U.S.A. so I consider myself American.
