HELP! i'm a techno dunce.. how can I set my PC to hibernate? (and I tried to do it thru power options.........?

but I'm sure there's somewhere to put that option IN power options, if I can only find it!

Update:

when I turn off the computer, the 'standby' button is dimmed. It used to do it, before a 'friend' reformatted it!

Update 2:

John, thanks, but there is no longer a 'hibernate' tab. I am asking how to put my power options back the way they were before 'friend' helped. and I can't do system restore, people; it's been REFORMATTED.

Update 3:

*AHEM* I am not an idiot, I am asking for a reason..the options to shut down USED to include standby, and I DO know how to hibernate from that point. I amm asking, what happened and how do I (can I) fix it without taking the darn thing to a tech?

Update 4:

thanks to my ex, here is a site that helps:

On the shutdown menu, you can press shift and click to enter hibernate, you should see standby change.

You also need to enable hibernation. Right click on desktop=>properties=>screensaver=>power=>hibernate=>enable

This is all I can think of. I think some computers might not be able to enter hibernation, I'm not sure.

Is it a notebook with power saving features? If not, you will probably not have the option.
