I am painting over a light green (flat paint) wall with a medium brown satin paint. Do I need a primer?

    no.......but if you did any spackling to cover any small holes ..then you would need to prime those few spots............

    Probably not, but you may need a second coat of the brown. If the old paint is dirty, you might also do yourself a favor and wash the walls down with TSP. It's an inexpensive way to assure a good surface for the brown.

    Fill any holes with interior filler, sand all areas to be painted with fine sandpaper around 120 grit . Seal any areas filled with interior primer. Lightly sand primed areas. Wash all walls down with sugar soap once dry apply two coats of the satin paint.
